Colour/Color Analysis: Theory and Application Thread

Seasonal colour/color analysis and (applying it to one's wardrobe and makeup choices) seems to be very popular at the moment.

I thought we could have a thread to discuss different systems, the pluses and the minuses. Even whether you think it's all hocus-pocus.

I've studied art, and there was a lot of colour theory (I recommend Patrick Baty's The Anatomy of Colour and The Book of Colour Concepts (Taschen)). Pure colour science and theory (7) and applied (semiotics) is not really what I want to talk about here, although it's related. I want to explore the colour systems that explore harmony for style and wardrobe.

Some of the 4/12 seasonal theory doesn't make sense in practice but it's better than someone giving me only 5 colours to wear.

I've been 'diagnosed' twice, both times using the same 12 season theory (the 'draping' was done differently). The first time I was told I was a 'Soft Autumn' the last time a 'Bright Spring' (I'm not asking for a diagnosis - I don't particularly like any of the palettes exclusively). As you can imagine, I am near neutral - but high colour (peach). My take is that what suits me suits me, what doesn't, doesn't. If I know what I should stay away from (taupes, mushrooms, ice-blue, rich cream, Barbie pink, dark magenta, most pastels/dusties etc) then I'm fine with the rest.

I'm not against consultations. I think it's (mostly) money well spent so long as the consultant doesn't tell you to ditch your entire wardrobe and buy a new one (as was the case of another friend). Anything that gives us more insight into ourselves is great. I really enjoyed looking at myself more objectively. I always though 'peach undertone' meant very warm, now I understand I'm almost neutral (as much 'pink' as 'yellow') a lot of things make sense (looking awful in strong creams or warm beige for instance).

In terms of theory into practice, I think anything works really well if someone is typical, especially in the extreme, but not so easy if you don't fit. People with olive (my sister) peach (me) purple (my friend) also don't lean 'warm = yellow / cool = pink. And since when did red/pink become cool colours? My taps beg to differ.

I know there are a lot of different systems out there too. I know there's one that basically just says don't go darker than your darkest colour, no lighter than your lightest, use your lip colour for your 'hottest look' etc. There there are others that use digital analysis of one's skin and harmonise shapes for patterns and details of the wardrobe/jewellery as well as colour.

I just wondered if others have had experience in terms of consultations with any o the systems, and what you did as a result? If you diagnosed yourself? If you did more than one, which systems work(ed) best? Or whether you think the whole thing is a scam?

The Elusive P9 Thread

I know it’s difficult to get your hands on!!
But we need a thread to showcase these beautiful limited pieces.

If you have one, have questions/concerns or just want to admire and post pictures of these beauties, this can be a great reference thread. Hopefully it will be helpful for others to see them, read about them before purchase or just ask questions about them.
I know it is difficult to find info on them as I scoured the internet reading everything I could and it’s still very limited.

Show us all the bags

Brahmin Hallie Beige Sandcastle should I?

Looking for opinions. Brahmin is an underrated brand that I love for it's quality leather and how their bags can stand up to anything.

Looking at the Hallie style in beige sandcastle and I keep gping back to look at it. Wanting an exotic look bag that will match most everything and this seems to tick those boxes. Also it's a top handle handbag I can carry without a long strap. Think it would look good with a twilly too on the handle. Thinking of getting the bag and matching ady wallet. Photos included. (Pic with person is not me it's a Google photo just to show size and shape when carried).

The total would be about 700 USD for both from Brahmin itself but I do have a 25.00 code there from previous purchases.

Dior Lady small

Hi, please let me know your advise. I purchase this Dior lady small in patent at the. Real real, it’s in pristine condition. At $3,800. My gf said patent doesn’t age well and also high maintenance, I live in Los Angeles, so no humidity. I read some thread here and most are going for lam or calf. It’s such a good price since now Dior are retail at $5900 plus tax $6500. Should I keep or return? I am on the fence as it is a pretty bag, but get finger prints and dust. Let me know your thoughts. It’s almost half off retail. Thanks

Leather conditonner for Chanel bag

Hi,

I purchased a secondhand beige Chanel Executive Cerf Tote and noticed that the leather is stiffer and drier compared to the black one I own.

I am looking for recommendations of a leather conditionner. I have read some posts of certain leather conditioners that have stained and ruined bags.

Is Cadillac the most recommended one?

Thank you in advance =)

Keep one or both? 💚 Toy Loulou & Lou Camera

Which ones should I keep?

  • Only camera bag in black + ghw

  • Toy loulou AND Camera bag in cinnamon

  • Toy loulou AND Camera bag in black + ghw

Results are only viewable after voting.

Hi everyone! I’m contemplating whether I should keep one YSL Camera bag or keep both the camera bag and toy loulou. And if I keep both, which colour of the camera bag should I choose?

I’m now thinking about keeping both in black + ghw because to me that’s the most classic ysl colour combination and goes with everything. But also am thinking if two bags are too similar to have in the same colour. I wear mostly gold/ brass jewelries, I have brown balayage hair and my clothes are mostly in warmer tone so I tend to go with ghw instead of silver.

I’ve been resizing and reorganizing my handbag collection lately. I am looking into getting some staple pieces, try to keep my wardrobe minimum and keep only classic pieces (sold all my Hermes and Chanel and would like to keep it that way for now)

I bought the toy Loulou in black with ghw, thinking that it would be a versatile bag with the option of removable strap, it would be great for me to wear it while dress up or dress down. I also bought the camera bag in Cinnamon and waiting for it to arrive. I’m so nervous about the cinnamon colour because I notice I don’t use bags that are not black that much and now since I’m reorganizing my closet, I want to make sure I make use out of all of them and my mind could just process “black bag goes with everything” for now. It would be the only designer bags in my collection right now that is not black. I thought the shade of brown would add a bit of vintage/ bohemian vibe to my outfits and these would be the two major small crossbody bags in my collection. I have another Coach tabby in avocado and a ysl Nolita mini I am trying to sell right now but that’s about it.

I just received the toy loulou bag and I LOVE IT. But now I’m thinking about my future trips and camera might be a better choice to take with me. I only like to carry one bag with me when travelling so that’s why I’m also thinking if the camera bag in black+ghw would be more versatile for future trips and running errands in general. I feel like I might get the most use out of the camera bag in black because it’s such a practical bag. The toy Loulou looks a little bit too small on my frame with that being said, it’s not a bag that I’m 100% satisfied with even though it is absolutely beautiful when it’s just sitting there on its own, I can’t take my eyes off her. I am not thinking about the small Loulou because I can’t justify the $1200 price difference between the two sizes, not a big fan of the chain straps and thinking it would only look good on me to use as shoulder bag.

AND I don’t usually have any fancy events to go to mostly just weddings. In that case, is it worth keeping the toy loulou? I got the toy Loulou for a pretty good deal on ******* but with the return policy, I might end up losing CAD$150 just to return it…

So now I’m debating either to:
1. Return both toy Loulou (lose $150) and camera bag in cinnamon and get the camera bag in black with ghw only. With the money I save on only purchasing one bag I could invest in something else.

2. Keep both the toy Loulou and camera bag in cinnamon because it would give me more variety

3. Keep toy Loulou and exchange the camera bag for black + ghw as well since I don’t own any other black cross body bags that are practical besides Loulou.

I owned a few other ysl pieces in the past but I’ve learned that I’m actually not a big fan of the chain straps although I won’t mind being able to adding a chain strap to the Loulou for special occasions.

Sorry for the long and disorganized post lol as you could tell my mind is all over the place right now with this and other stuff going on but hopefully this makes sense to you lol

Need help with pending pre-loved purchase

Hi everyone! I have a purchase pending from a seller on Vestiaire Collective. The bag was advertised as never worn with no defects. The bag has been authenticated but Vestiaire found a couple flaws the seller failed to mention. As this is my first Chanel purchase, I'm hoping to get some feedback as to whether the amount of discoloration on the CC hardware is acceptable. It looks pretty tarnished to me. The bag is from the 2018 Cruise collection and I'm paying approximately $4275 CAD ($3100 US) before taxes and import duty. I have 3 days to make up my mind before the order is cancelled. Thanks for any and all help!

Help please with Capucines dilemma.

Hi all,

I’m hoping to gift myself a special Capucines when I leave my current job after 20 years. My dilemma is : Do I purchase a full exotic in the mini (a size I don’t really enjoy using) or get a partial exotic in the bb size? If a full exotic mini I would be choosing lizard or possibly ostrich as full croc is out of my budget. :crybaby:
Partial croc bb pictured is what I am thinking for the bb - Picture credit Kassia.vuitton on YouTube.
Would you go the mini in lizard for the thrill of having a full exotic??? The bb because it’s a more practical size and those croc accents are soooo pretty?? Or not buy either - all opinions welcome!🤗

Hermes mini kelly double tour bracelet : color étoupe or black or gold?

This will be my first Hermès accessory and I always go for the most classic and iconic in luxury brands. (next will be a square silk scarf with equestrian motif)
I liked the color étoupe / taupe which is neutral but more unique. Although I have an olive skin and thought the black is the real classic there...There is also the gold brown leather option. All with gold hardware, what do you think?

How much time and effort in your daily beauty routine? Help me look better!

I am a bit lazy...but I know effort takes time and effort pays off.
In terms of impression : looking professional, getting social, pro, and dating opportunities.
On holidays I am lazy, on my everyday work I am lazy because I know that my colleagues dont bother and everyone is extremely casual.
So I focus on when I am out and about in the capital city in the weekends and as well as on dates...But on the rare occasion I may lose opportunities, because lets face it I struggle with looking and being feminine and its day and night how much better I look when I bother doing my hair and make up.
As well as choosing a proper outfit.
Help me feel and look feminine! Whats your secret to the motivation? And what do you do?

Fendi 2Jours - will the saffiano leather soften?

Hi all -

Years ago I purchased a medium 2jours bag (my first luxury bag actually) - it was a really different stage in my life and the bag was perfect for the corporate work setting. It was lightly used at the time and has sat gathering dust since then.

I'd like to dust it off and bring it back into rotation, except my life is very different now and I no longer work in a corporate setting. the bag is a little too "formal" for me now and wonder if the bag will slouch over time?

TLDR: Long time owners/users of the fendi 2jours (back when the sides were saffiano leather), how has your bag worn and does that saffiano leather soften?

[I know I could sell it but it doesn't have good resale value and is a little bit sentimental.]

Thank you!

My Hermes US profile disappeared!

I'm wondering if anyone here has ever heard of this happening before? I am Canadian but I have shopped in Orlando and NYC so had begun to build a decent spend there. I shopped at the Madison boutique in January and then I was in Orlando last week, and when the SA went to look up my profile, it was gone. We tried every possible to way to look it up - phone number, names, email, even the client number that was on my previous receipts. Nothing. I was surprised and pretty upset, as I had previously shopped at both Orlando and Madison. The last time my profile would have been accessed was in January at Madison, so I guess something happened there. But I don't understand how this could possibly happen! Does anyone have any insight or experience with anything like this? I haven't contacted Madison yet, but am planning to.
