Prada Bags: Now Made in China for Italian Made Prices."

Hi- just came across this thread & am seriously re-thinking any future Prada purchases. After searching frantically for a MADE IN ITALY tag on a tote recently purchased at a US Prada boutique, I could not find ANY black tag. Like others here, I did find TWO white tags, with the black # 7,8 (on 1 tag) & #165 (2nd tag) sewn on the inside pocket. I am MERELY guessing at this point, but since this bag has no MADE IN ITALY tag, my guess is that it was assembled at 3 different sites, hence the three # attached 7,8, 165.

I am curious to know where my bag is made in, since I did pay full price for the BL0792 GLACE Calf tote. Has anyone here found more than one white tag attached to their lining, with no MADE IN ITALY tag? Tks.

Same thing happened to me, I bought mine in a Melbourne boutique and I couldnt find the black tag either, just white tags that says 7, 165, R. Can anyone tell me where mine was made?

Wish I read this thread before I bought it.

Thanks for this thread. This is my first Prada, got it 4 months ago at Prada store at Changi Airport Singapore.. i actully wanted an LV Alexandra but got this instead when I was about to leave Singapore so this was a bit of an impulse purchase but I love it anyway  I've been wondering where to find the "Made in..." tag and I just found it! :shame: And it says Made in Italy! :yahoo: just one thing, I can't find the white tag with numbers on it yet though.. All bags have it?

This is such a classy clutch! It's usually beside the black tag... Maybe really folded in or something?

So I currently have a Prada bag- the Prada Vitello Daino Shopper BN2172 BBE01 (to be exact) on hold at Nordstorms.

The Prada specialist I talked to made a point in telling me that Prada bags are handmade in Italy- unlike Tony Burch bags (as she said). I checked out bags in Tony Burch too and the sales person their made a point to tell me that the leather that Tony Burch uses for their bag is the same exact as the leather used for Prada bags....(yeah right :P I mean I'm sure the leather is the same- I mean same kind of animal hide...but the process is different :P)

Anyway...I'm not against Made in China products- but if I'm going to pay almost 2 grand for a bag I would like to know that its been crafted and made by a specialist and not in some big huge factory in China .

I looked around the posts here and someone else posted their Vitello Daino and said it was made in Italy... I hope mine is too

The tory burch saffiano leather is NOT the same as Prada saffiano leather. The tory burch one RUBS OFF after a bit of use, and the Prada one does not. I think the TB one isn't heat-stamped well enough or the QA isn't as good as the prada one. The whole point of saffiano leather is that it's scratch resistant and long lasting, but the TB one isn't either of those things. You can find more feedback about the TB saffiano bags on the TB subforum.

Yeah...I dont know what the Tony Burch SA was talking about...but she told me exactly that- that Tony Burch Saffiano leather is the same as Prada Saffiano leather.

I don't plan on buying a Tony Burch bag anyway- I 'm in love with my Prada bag- but its the soft calf leather- not the saffiano.

Just bought my saffiano lux tote. Made in Italy ;)

Where did you find the tag? I just bought one from the Perth Prada boutique but all I have managed to locate are the 2 white tags with numbers.

Arg am I just supposed to convince myself that the bag is made in Italy?

I found my black tag pretty easily on my saffiano double zip tote. it was on the side of the big compartment in the middle. It's sewn in pretty "deeply" into the seams so that might be why it's a little hard to find.

Prada is not the only one doing this. Burberry is as well. From what I've seen, the nova check and hay market check bags (pretty much anything that is coated PVC) is "imported". This is just a sneaky way of saying made outside of western Europe. Somebody would have to correct me on this but I think that there are some Celine bags out there that are still made in china as well(that may have stopped now). Unfortunately, this is the route that most designers might follow as greed becomes more important than quality or maintaining a true sense of luxury. Because of this, I always check the tag before I buy any designer item, including rtw and accessories.

I don't think that's true because my Burberry Vintage Check in PVC is made in Italy, at least all the ones I bought. I saw some at the store the other day it is Made in Italy. There are some Nova checks that used to be made in Italy but I heard they are made in China now. I used to have a Nova check wallet Made in Italy but it got stolen at school.

Urggh! My first prada, made in Vietnam. 2nd one which i adore the most, is made in china...no made in italy yet! And I am so going to get one!!!
Can't believe I paid that much!
Btw, all my wallets and pouches are luckily made in italy!

Common, lv made in usa, prada in china... my friend even got burberry made in china as well...

Iphone assembled in china? Guess that's is all cheaper labour for higher profit..
all about business.......

My first ever Prada arrived today & it has a Made in China tag:cry:
Have attached a pic but a bit blurry as it's dark now.
Not even sure if bag is authentic, had it authenticated before buying & have put more pics on authenticate this thread so will let you all know once it's been looked at.
Such a let down.

Hi your prada is authentic. My prada has the same tag. Bought mine from Hong Kong a store called EXTRAVAGANZA. They sell various designer bags. Btw, what model is your bag ?
