Is monogram canvas really worth it???

too many price increases and it is really not fair for the average person....I do realize it is a luxury item but, feel it is too pricey to invest in more bag so my four LV's will have to do and yes I will splurge on end of season Gucci which I love and the price point is awesome...

I personally don't think LV is meant for EVERY average person. I read somewhere that the average upper-middle class family is making $88K a year making it hard to afford the bags I am sure. Personally I don't see how people survive on that!?! :wtf: However, I soooo admire people who make this or less and still manage to save for their LV. It PROVES to me that it is worth it! It is a luxury item which means only those who really desire it (enough to save for a while) or who can afford it should get it. I am sooo NOT trying to be *****y but if you don't think it's worth or it's too expensive then don't buy it!?! :shrugs:

That's the thing though... LV isn't just for the average person. One should only buy LV when they have extra money to spend. If one should have to complain so much about a company's prices, why do they still buy their products? Where would the luxury be in LV if everything were so affordable? :shrugs:

I know that was going a little off-topic, but the subject of luxury items being too pricey came into play...

This is just my opinion though... I still respect everyone else's opinions too.

Louis Vuitton bags are luxury items... they need not be justified up to this extent. LV isn't meant for everybody. you might want to go back to Gucci which goes on sale twice a year if you find LV a wee bit exorbitant  jmho.

Took the words right out of my mouth! The price was not meant to be broken down as cost per materials and labor dollar for dollar. It's a freakin LUXURY GOODS COMPANY.

This is a pointless discussion, but anyhow I WILL say that although it only costs LV a fraction of the selling price to produce its bags, the mileage you will get out of them will well pay for itself over and over. The quality (and amazing style) also ensures repeat customers.

First of all, Louis Vuitton is *not* designed for the "average person." It's high fashion, not Old Navy. Nothing wrong with either, and I'm not saying that people who can afford to buy Louis Vuitton are in any way superior to people who cannot, but the goal of the house is *not* to put a Louis Vuitton handbag in the hands of every man, woman, and child the world over. They trade on their cachet, not on ubiquity or attainability.

The price increases are absolutely justified; we live in a free market society, and they have every right to (and in fact they SHOULD) charge whatever the market will bear. If they raise prices too much, people will stop buying the bags. Until then, why shouldn't they charge exorbitant prices? Not to get too economics-y here, but the ultimate goal of any business should be to find the point at which their profit margins are maximized with minimal loss of clientele. That is, if Louis Vuitton increases prices by 10%, even if their total sales go down by 9.9% (highly unlikely) they will still be more profitable than before the increase. Louis Vuitton is a profit-driven corporation, not a charity, and we live in a capitalist society, not a socialism. If *you* think it costs too much, don't buy it. The only way that prices will ever go down is if you, and a bunch of other people, do. Nobody is forcing you to buy the bags.

Of course I'm not pissed off!!!! We are all entitled to our own opinions!!!

Most people I know don't even own LV either... hell they don't even know what LV is!!! The way I see it is this: I earned my hard earned money to buy this product... I know it will last a lifetime. I know LV isn't perfect, but one can still go to any boutique and have the problem fixed.

When it's tough to afford LV, it becomes a love/hate relationship with the product. If it's too much for you, there are other alternatives. Sometimes one lv is enough to satisfy the lv craving, but most of the time we want more and more. LV can raise its prices all it wants to and it actually benefits those of us who have bought bags before the price increase as our bags become more valuable. You certainly have the right to your opinion, but you asked for other opinions as well. I feel very lucky to have the ones I have and I know a lot of people who will never get one. Enjoy your good fortune without yearning for more than you can afford.

Personally I think LV is like any other quality product. Its also about how you want to spend your money and what you enjoy wearing or carrying.
I recall many many moons ago buying running shoes, those cheap things from walmart/zellers kind of deal. I 'd end up buying 3 or 4 pair in a yr, not bad right? No, when you think about the money you spend on that junk for it to wear out so fast its wrong. I started putting my money into better runner and dropped 80$. my dad about had a $hit on my head when you found out what I spent. Thing is they were so much more comfy, last the year and I liked them so much more.

Same goes with bags, you get what you pay for. If you're willing to budget to get a nice bag that is going to out last your car I say go for it. Thing is everytime you look at that handbag you're going to be glad you spent the money.

I used to buy tons of $100 bags I kinda liked just so they can fall apart in months..
It's wiser to invest in good quality bag that you totally LOVE!! They last longer, you can take them to any part of the world and they are recognizable,, and they hold and keep their value. Not foolish at all to me..
:P

INDEED!!!!!

I have to pace myself and talk myself out of buying bags because if I had it my way I would be buying a few bags a month...this year I have spent over 10k in handbags and accessoires and now I am thinking W-T-F that was my landscaping bill this summer for the patio alone...am I one shallow materialistic ***** or what...I psst at myself for not having enough self restraint....I need the designer shoes, bags, jeans and sooo on....man I have to get it together and do I really need another mono bag...I am soo close to ordering a few more and tell myself do I need them and are they even worth it...lately I have been telling myself they are not that great...put the money towards better things ect...

It's all to do with the cpw (cost per wear). A bag may be expensive, but if you divide the price by the number of times you wear it, the price amounts to very little per wear (especially when you are getting a lot of use out of something as multipurpose as the monogram canvas). CPW is how I justify any bag purchase to myself
