Horrible experience with eBay seller

Certainly glad OP that Amex has given you your long overdue refund.
I might add that being an Amex cardholder for 25+ years (business as well as personal) have not
experienced Amex taking this amount of time to resolve an issue such as yours.
On the contrary, Amex has always stepped up to to the plate taking the information over the phone &
confirming with a follow up letter & then resolving the matter in 30 days or perhaps a little longer.
In any event, glad this was resolved & hopefully won't discourage you from continuing to use Amex
