Who is iconic to you, past and present?
From the 1950s, I have loved the model Dovima.

She was in the famous 'Dovima with Elephants' photo by Richard Avedon, in a dress that was the first design for Dior by a young Yves Saint Laurent. Of all the 20th century decades, the fifties had a breathtaking poise to its fashions, though of course real life for women was quite restricted compared to today.
From the sixties, I loved Penelope Tree's gamine, heavy lashed face, also a model. Her photos were louche and doll-like.

And of recent times, I often admired Chloe Sevigny's effortless know how in coordinating pieces in tune with her mercurial moods. One of my favorite articles about her is this here (New Yorker, 1994).

Please, share some that have inspired you!
