I looked up Schiaparelli , I used to live a couple of minutes walk from the Place Vendome salon(that’s probably the word for it).

The rtw prices make Chanel look inexpensive , although it’s very lovely-there were always exquisite gowns in the windows, I cannot imagine what the Haute Couture runs at-I can see why it’s your style!

There was an evening dress I liked in the summer couture collection, and obviously the quality is sublime, I wouldn’t refuse it, although it’s not my first choice.
Although having said that, I also worked for Karl Lagerfeld many years ago in his prime, and Didn’t appreciate the clothes,or use my staff discount, when in fact the clothes were beautiful..

Back to you and JPG couture, based on the quality of his main line couture, I bet the couture would be incredible ..

Even downloading couture 23/24 shows from designers I didn’t recognise, I had to appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship which sets Haute Couture apart from the rest of the world, and just be thankful that for a window in my life I could afford a few pieces, although that seems a very long time ago-but the memories are fresh as a daisy..

The 1920’s flapper dresses were stunning, the first time hemlines ever went up-after the Wall Street Crash.
I’m trying to explain the relationship between politics and fashion to my 23 year old friend but she’s not really interested.
I’d have Loved to have been a Bright Young Thing in the 20’s , sipping cocktails in a wonderful dress, by Chanel..
Lucky you!xxxx
...the relationship between politics and fashion..
I have an interest in costume or so-called "fashion" jewelry - and it is also fascinating to read about developments over the last century in metallurgy & metal fashioning, as well as advances in the production of strass and invention of new resins & plastics, which impacted the manufacture & quality of costume jewelry, which in turn had great implications for the social classes. Jewelry became an expression of style & not just of personal wealth. Bakelite is a single example from the 1920's and was used by both Chanel & Schiaparelli in jewelry inspired by the Dada movement.

Yes, and before he died, Yves Saint Laurent had an Haute Couture accessories boutique on the rue du Faubourg St Honore, which sold(amongst other things), jewellery designed by Loulou de La Falaise which crossed the bridge between costume and real jewellery.
Everything was a one off, and used in the Haute Couture collection, nothing to do with YSL rtw.

I bought a beautiful real rose quartz necklace ..each stone very pink and highly polished, chosen for the piece..I Wish I still had it… I’ve no idea what it would be worth now, plus it joins my passions of jewellery and fashion, but my jewellery collection is high jewellery..and years back I stupidly sold it-now I’d never sell anything as I know I’d regret it.
I also bought a black “voile de pashmina “ in cashmere and silk, had several pairs of gloves made(all I have left is an empty gloves box, or it could be the pashmina box).
I also bought pieces from YSL Couture whilst I lived in Paris, which were the most beautiful clothes I’ve ever owned, but I was so young I just lived in them until they wore out.
I wish I still had the wardrobe I had in my early 30’s..

Back to topic and yes, the jewellery in the YSL Couture boutique was worthy of Any book.xxx

For mere inspiration watching is wonderful and worth it.

If you worked in couture, then you know how much work goes into those pieces, the structure underneath, the hours of make and re-make, the discussions, the finishing, you can appreciate how much detail goes into each one of these 'objects'.

I also used to work for a couture house, also a long time ago, but just vendeuse and only on Saturdays. Actually, I quite dreaded it but it taught me a lot. I think I was once sent home for what I wore to work  . I bought a black, silk grosgrain crossover waistcoat with the money I earned, that was my one thing. The only couture I have apart from the waistcoat was bought preloved, made for someone else. Still works of art though, and wearable.

As for the cost, I could barely afford Schiaparelli PàP, goodness knows what Maison Schiaparelli couture costs. If I had the money, apart from JPG, I think I would still stick to collecting vintage couture and tailor if need be. Vintage Valentino was out of this world. I will get a 'High End' bespoke Gucci suit this year and that's the budget gone ha ha.

Thanks for the tip, I will have a look at the Valentino
I reread your post, I’d loved to have seen your waistcoat , I bet we Both have had some gorgeous pieces.
Where was your couture house-was it in Central London?

I used to have clothes made by Peter Lewis Crown at Lachasse Couture, the oldest London Couture house, where Hardy Amies started, he was a perfect gentleman, I used to do charity modelling for him(Syon House, the Mansion House, somewhere else very nice I can’t remember ..)- I got him an OBE for his charity work.
I used to go to the catwalk collections although everything was too old for me, but I loved the thrill of it(I used to fly to Paris for the Chanel clients couture shows although I only bought one thing)..

There’s a magic in knowing you have a one off-I’m praying that you get your bespoke Gucci suit soon.
I’m paying the balance on my Porusus crocodile biker next month (I bought a white gold diamond watch last week).

Next year my bespoke treat will be either a coat or a Savile Row suit(my last one was 1996).
Whichever one I don’t do will be the following year..

Please update re your suit!❤️❤️

Paris

I went in Tuesday (just to buy a gift). They don't take orders in August as the workshop's closed. I will update, but don't hold your breath.

I have a 1970s vintage Hardy Amis suit in black silk velvet (maxi-skirt and sequin-trim jacket). Obviously it wasn’t made for me, but I cherish it none the less.

I’m holding my breath and crossing my fingers and toes for you, nevertheless …!

I used to go into Hardy Amies on Savile Row every weekend and touch the clothes, which were perfection, Savile Row meets Paris..beautiful..
