You and your clochette. A question of necessary vs. unnecessary.

That's really an interesting question! So, to me, a Hermes Birkin or Kelly--well, it really isn't in my mind 'complete' wtihout the clochette dangling! Yet I gasp at the idea of accidentally losing it. So, I carry it and constantly worry. But the lock on my JPG birkin is HUGE! It's seriously like a pound! I think it's an arm workout just for that lock. I always toy with taking it off, but I like it so much I keep it. Anyone who used to be a fan of the Chloe Paddington knows what an incredible pain those locks were, and at least Hermes locks are in proportion to the bag size. Anyway, to answer your question, I carry my bag with it on there...after all, one must suffer for fashion!:smile1:

I never carry the clochette, keys or lock with my bags, mostly because I don't use them. They could serve as accessories to the bag, but I prefer to use twillys or bag charms to dress up a bag. :)

i put it on when i want the look of the bag enhanced i see it actually as a bit of an interruption on the very clean basic boxy look that hermes bags give and that i personally love that said when the bag needs a bit of a boost or i just need to justify the bag as a matching accesory i add and swap clochettes eg im wearing camel tone boots but want to wear mt mykonos bag ill add the gold clochette on and in all honesty it does something !!! also i find it the only one acceptable charm an hermes bag can have so....... i sometimes do i some times dont but i do not find it essential darling would you mind sharing a picture of this bag sounds very interesting !!!!

YES, for me it's completion, most of time, its tied on the handle and can be swung out when I feel like it.

Plus, if the bag is a 'color' bag it needs to be the same shade and condition of the bag, so that the clochette is not pristine while the bag is mint, just me on this reasoning lol.
Veau box included!

I don't think it matters, however, I always use mine If you did decide you wanted a clochette and lock you could always have a constrasting color made (or you may get one on ebay, though I doubt it). A birkin with a contrast clochette and/or a twilly could be a really nice look.

I love the look of the clochettes, but I don't use the clochettes on my box Kelly's because I am always worried it will leave a "smiley" mark on my bag. On the textured leathers like clemence or togo, I don't worry about that.

Interesting! So far it appears the majority of people don't use theirs.

After realising the practicality of the clochette is lost on me, I belonged to the 'Hmm... sometimes' crowd for a little while, until I decided that bag is hero, and needs no adornment. So off it came, and onto my key ring with my house and bike keys, it went.

Oh absolutely jmzr22, your bag is a hero with our without the clochette. I however, feel like I could not carry my Birkin without having the clochette dangling from the handle, with a Carmen attached to it as well. I adore adore the clochette as an accent to an already delicious bag. I keep the lock at home--too heavy. It's all about the asthetic appeal for me.

And maybe if you change your mind, you could find a contrasting color from a reseller. That might be a cool look??

jmzr22, I'm a completest type myself. If it comes with the bag, I would definitely want to use it. :)

Yet, the bag I want first (The Bolide) doesn't come with one. But it does come with a shoulder strap that I would use the heck out of. ;)
