So...

We are one of those birkins lovers...who have YET to score on any Bs..not even the 25! Uhuh...sad sad story...

Now..the itch is on..and no Bs in sight.

What would you settle for?
A Kelly?
A Lindy?
A Victoria?
A Evelyn?
Or.......

Above mentioned, as not as if IT IS readily available, BUT... really...what would you do?

WAIT PATIENTLY for your Beloved B? and settle for nothing less?
Or...just go ahead...buy what is avail...

Have you considered a Jypsiere? They have the same gorgeous hardware as a Birkin and are less tiresome to carry because of the shoulder strap.

So now...

Talking about almost immediate obsession and possession, yet such uncertainty about obtaining a B from Paris...
How much MORE would you pay from the re-seller route?

Resellers are known to have mark-up about $3000-$6000 per H Birkin, and to be honest, rather to pay for that kinda mark-up...might as well use that difference and buy other stuff from FSH and *cross fingers* hope that a sweet SA will offer you a B or K after all the mass purchase... Right? Hmmmm.....

It is true regarding about this on resellers. Markups are getting higher and higher. There will always be customers for that yet there are customers who are not willing to pay for the markup.

The only choice is to wait and look for a bargain.

Then, there are times where people are looking for specific items, specific specs and Hermes may no longer has those specs available anymore. Whatever is in stores at the moment are all latest colours. It all depends on every individual.

For now, your mind is all about getting the 'B'. If this is the case, I'd wait and build a relationship with a SA. Chances are, you might be getting a Birkin from the store. Subjective, all depends on luck at times. If you have a specific specs in mind, look through online and you might find a bargain.I buy both from store and resellers. If I buy everything from store, I wouldn't be able to get the exact items I want. Even if I may be an old long term customer.

If the Birkin is what you want, don't settle for anything until you are sure what's another bag style you might want to get. Hermes is an expensive label and no matter how rich a person is, I wouldn't waste money on items I won't use. Money is not easy to be earned.

This reminds me the "old times" when resellers did not exist because internet was not even on, no cell phones, nothing.

There was not such a thing as this mass craving for "luxury"... You could step into Hermes and place an order. Wait two years, save for the bag meantime, and finally get YOUR bag, the one that had been made for YOU. (would it be a black Kelly)

The world has changed, Hermes has changed. Now you have to play games or pay for a mark up ...
....for getting the same Togo Birkin bag your schoolmate got last week...

Op, to answer your question, don't settle with what you really want. Get the bag you like. And put the money where it is worth to achieve this goal.

If you are patient, you can find pristine B's for a markup of 1.5-3.5k. The only flaw in your rationale is that 3-6k spent at FSH definitely does not guarantee a B, let alone in the color and leather and hardware you desire.

This. If it is only the Birkin you want, I would go via the reseller route. Just get it authenticated here and you can get the colour leather size combo you really want.

I havent seen or heard much about a VICTORIA.

I do like it really...I can pass down to my Li'l Victoria in due time :graucho:

to others, those bags may not be "settling" (may actually be holy grails for some), but if is it settling FOR YOU, then no, you should not get it! you should only ever buy what sings to your heart :hbeat:

good luck :flowers:!

I don't think any of those bags are 'settling', in fact many prefer them over a B, so they are wonderful in their own right and serve great purposes. In general, I wouldn't settle just because I was feeling impatient-- then something better always comes along and you regret settling!

Well said .... I couldn't agree more ....

Ita soooo miss those good old times
Things were much better than compare now
Well we moved on lol

josiren, this is an interesting question.

I just want to quickly share my experience here:
For me, it was the LINDY. Not one. But TWO. I had done my research here & thanks to fellow tpfers, I grew to love the style of the LINDY & felt it was not only functional, but it fit my life style as well. I had two wonderful experiences purchasing them at two different stores. I like the Birkin, but didn't think I HAD to have it.

THEN, after talking to a friend who owns several Birkins & trying them out, I thought WHY NOT put my name down & see what happens? Then I went on with my life & didn't give it a second thought. If it was meant to be, then I figure a Birkin will find me. I still had my 2 lovely LINDYs.

To make a long story short, I got the call a week after putting my name down. It was karma. But the offer was for a B35 & I had put my name down for a B30. I figure no loss by taking a quick look, thinking the bag would be too big & heavy for me.

As you all know, it really never works that way with H. The joke was on me. Even if it was a B35, it was LOVE at first sight. The Epsom leather. The color & hardware combo. It all happened so quickly, that I didn't have time to get all excited about it.

All I can say, is if the Birkin is THE BAG you really, really want, then GO FOR IT. Don't compromise. Try to be a little flexible & you will find something you like.

For me, it's sort of like life. Things happen when you least expect it. Just be patient & good things will come your way..:smile1:

Here's a twist to think about but before I go to that thought, have you tried any of the purses, especially the birkin of which you dream?

Suppose you were to get another H purse and use it until the birkin opportunity comes your way. You get the birkin only to find it is doesn't live up to your dreams. Just tossing that one out there, strange as it may seem.

There are many H styles and shameful as it is I seem to be on a mission to acquire each and every dang one of the styles that I admire. To say settle for a style, well nix that. I think the hunger game will continue after birkin.

Anywho, I agree with a heap of patience/daily perusal for birkin, you can find one that is not double the store price; also agree having a pre-owned purse comes with far less fear as far as using it. Tis like buying a used car in that sense. Have fun in your search!

Hey FellowTpFers!!

Finally....after some time of searching high and low.... I decided on a B35.
And I got the B35! .. via reseller route.... *uhuh*

But after having the B35 for sometime now....to be honest... I only used it like...TWICE!
and that's becoz I had to tell myself to use it or it'll be my DH excuse for not getting me another!
Just when I thought that a Lindy was " not pretty" .... trying to fool myself..... I realised that a Lindy is NEXT on my wishlist! Oh man............................

This is to tell another TPFer who is like me.....Listen....... There is NO LESS when it comes to Hermes. It's all in the mind........ You will never be satisfied just by 1 HG! :sweatdrop:

LOL, funny the way things turn out, isn't it?!? I was going to say that the bags on your "settle for" list are wonderful and many prefer them to Birkins, maybe only for some occasions, maybe all the time. But I guess you are experiencing a bit of that yourself now. So I say you should get one of each of the bags on your list...good luck, enjoy the slippery orange slope!! (And I agree, there is no "less" when it comes to H, they are simply different from each other!)

In my opinion, there is mo such thing as " settle for less " to any Hermes items. They are all gorgeous! Whenever i walk to the store i feel like i want to buy almost every single thing. The braclets, the bags, the agenda, constance, lindy, kelly, you name it i want them all. But sadly, if i buy everything i like my wallet will cry!

Is it terrible to consider buying a bag for its colour alone? You see, I've been dreaming of a classic Kelly in raisin or ultraviolet and the SA's at my nearest boutique told me (in the gentlest way to a non-VIP customer) that no way in the next decade will one will be "available" to me. Boo.. Resellers mark these babies up well beyond retail, as we know..

A compromise would be a 40 cm white bus in raisin that is floating around on Fl-Ebay... its beautiful. it would work well as a work/day/diaper bag.. but I think I am overly swayed by the beauty of the colour.

Has anyone been in my shoes? Did you regret it make a "compromise" purchase?

I don't think it's terrible. Color is very important to me and I choose bags based on color. I remember that the day I was offered my B, I asked my SA for any bag in Blue Electric. Unfortunately BE was no longer being made so when my SA asked for a second option, I picked anemone and that's how I got my anemone B.

I think it depends what you mean by compromise. If your heart is set on a Kelly and you get a whitebus, will you always be pining away for a Kelly? If so, then don't do it. Personally, I love raisin and I bought a raisin dalvy (see avatar) and that has satisfied my raisin craving. I did not think of it as a compromise because it was love at first sight and is still one of my favorites. A BE Kelly is next on my list but if I can't get it a BE toolbox, Lindy or Victoria will work as well and perhaps my Kelly will be Rouge H or graphite. It's all relative. Make sure you buy a bag you love, that is the key. BTW, raisin kelly's pop up quite often on ebay - get it authenticated here and you can buy your dream bag without having to compromise :)

Very well said jyyanks! The key thing about H is patience. Im joy saying wait 10 years but some patience is required.

I am not sure it's gonna satisfy you because a white bus is extremely different in style and function from a Kelly. Though it does sounds like the color wins over style since you're willing to settle for a white bus just to acquire the color, I truly think the Kelly style plays a big role in your craving. I say if you have to settle and are willing to wait just a little, maybe something more closely related to a Kelly will come around in the color you love like a raisin bolide (which has been listed on h.com this year). And on top of that if you're willing to buy second hand then one never knows when a reseller or online consignment place will have a raisin or UV Kelly posted or something else more similar. H patience is truly a virtue.
