Assuming this is your one and only upgrade, and your budget only allows the following:

1) Trade in your current Tiffany engagement ring and upgrade it to 1.8-1.9 carat diamond (budget will not allow you to reach the 2 carat mark)

2) Keep your current diamond, and use the amount of money towards a non-branded 2 carat diamond

Keep in mind you LOVE the Tiffany Setting and the only reason why you're so drawn to the brand, otherwise you would not choose Tiffany.

Comments/opinions please!!

Definitely tiffany. I have "unbranded" bigger diamond rings but I always feel it looks dated. So I always reach for the "designer" ones...in my case it's the Bvlgari. Such designer ones tend to look more classic.

Assuming i would get a quality 2 carat diamond with the non-branded setting, i would pick the non branded setting. The tiffany setting can be copied by jewelers, like it's just six prongs and low set, right? I would only pay a premium for tiffany if it was some elaborate design with lots of craftsmanship in it, like maybe something with pave diamonds on it in an interesting shape. Plus then you get to have 2 rings instead of one and you get to keep your original engagement ring which has sentimental value.

I vote for Option 1. If you go with Option 2 you might find yourself looking at the new ring and feeling maybe not so great about it since you will know it's not Tiffany & Co.

Good luck with your decision, that's a tough one!
