Hi all, hope everyone is doing well. I just ordered my first Mulberry from Farfetch. It's the mini Alexa in the cornflower blue. I couldn't decide whether to get the blue or the Mulberry pink. That may be next. However, a handful of people said it's a way over priced contemporary bag. I got it for about 30% off of the original price. It shouldn't be the price it is. It will never hold it's value etc...what do you all think?

Honestly I‘ve learned the hard way not to buy bags based on resale value; some go up, some go down, some go down then up lol

The question to ask is; Do you love it, will you use it and is it worth it to you?
Hi and thanks for your response. I haven't seen one in person yet so I'm excited to get this. From watching reviews and knowing that I love blue, I think I'm going to love it.

In an ideal world we’d all like to pay half what we pay for our bags right?

I don’t buy my bags for resale/investment purposes so if i am paying full retail then i make sure i really like it and know I will get lots of use out of it before handing over my bank card. There are some styles I use on a regular basis like the Antony, Bayswater tote and Tessie (first two were retail, Tessie was a sale purchase) so to me I am getting my moneys worth. Some of my bags are sitting in the wardrobe waiting for that perfect moment to be used, if it ever comes!

Even though most people can spot a Mulberry bag, to me it’s a quiet luxury made out of beautiful leather that makes me fall in love each time I see the green store bag.

There are some designer bags I wouldn’t spend huge amounts on, like some people do, but that’s my choice. We all have our likes/loves etc. As long as you’re happy with the price you’ve paid then that’s all that matters. I hope you fall in love with your new bag when you see it!

I discovered Mulberry last year, and bought a small Darley with chain strap. Since it was for a very specific occasion, not daily use, I tried many contemporary bags but did not find a good fit. I was pleasantly surprised by the craftsmanship and design of Mulberry. I am looking forward to my next. It is definitely worth it to me!

It’s an adorable bag. Great leather. Cute style. You got it for 30% off. If you love it and will use it,
it’s a deal. Get your value out of it with cost per wear. IMO  enjoy it

In my opinion Mulberry isn’t a contemporary brand. It’s under the luxury category here as well. That said, I don’t mind if the brand is considered luxury or not, but IMO Mulberry is a luxury brand. It does have a low resell value, but that applies to most of the luxury brands. There are a few brands that hold their value, the majority of them don’t.

Alexa is one of my favorite bag styles! Along with the LV Speedy. I’m sure you won’t regret getting it! :hbeat:

Yeah, I see mulberry as luxury as well. I like & wear contemporary bags, but don’t see M in that category.

Sorry if I sound rude but it seems to me you still have doubts about your purchase? Then I'd say just wait for the bag to arrive, try it on and if what others say still bugs you, you can return the bag and wait it out for a bit.
I had my doubt too when I bought the original Alexa (the one with thinner leather than the latest batch that couldn't hold its shape when left standing without stuffings - it just fell in a heap while I prefer bags with a bit more structure - like the current Alexas on their website). It was in 2014 and it cost about £550 at Bicester Village, so it was also discounted. I thought at that time too that it was overpriced, so I returned it. There were absolutely no external pressure.

Three years later, I saw the Darley and the Lily and fell in love, but could only afford one. After much pondering, I picked the large Darley, paid full price and walked out of the store. The bag still stays with me till this day, and every time someone asks me how much I bought it for, I said I got it for £50 from a charity shop. I think that took care of it. No one judged my choice, and I got to enjoy the bag without feeling bad about spending such a huge amount (if I have to be brutally honest, I still think Mulberry bags are expensive and you will hardly ever make back what you spend selling a Mulberry). However, the bag has a sentimental value to me, and its style is very British, which I like, so I don't care much about the price now.

All in all I still think and understand that what others say may affect us in one way or the other, but I believe that once you find a bag that you simple love to own and wear (even if not for a long long time), you'll find ways to shut out external pressure and judgement ;)

I vividly remember when the Alexa was launched around 2010 and immediately became an it-bag and how much I liked it. I still think that it is a great bag in terms of design and quality. It is definitely not the bag that is being endorsed by influencers on social media right now so it is less recognisable. But I believe it may make a comeback any time like many other bags do (I see Loewe Puzzle literally EVERYWHERE, but a couple of years ago I could hardly see any). And any increase in popularity is always temporary while you can wear the bag for many years.

I remember buying a YSL Cabas bag just before the YSL to Saint Laurent rebranding. I was slightly disappointed at spending so much money on the bag that was considered a little bit outdated just half a year after the purchase. Now I try to be minimalistic, so I focus on the simple design, good quality and if the bag matches with most of my outfits. And I rarely post something on social media so most of my friends, who I don't meet regularly, have no opinion about my clothes/bags at all. So my opinion about the bag is the only that matters. If you like this approach, then I believe Alexa is a good choice. But if you want the bag to be more popular and recognisable, then probably it's not Alexa's time. There is no right or wrong, it's just how you feel.

And I really like the advice above to get the bag in see it in real life.

I bought my first Mulberry recently (also a mini Alexa), and I love it. Excellent quality, and I don’t view Mulberry as contemporary. I personally think of it on the same level as Givenchy, etc. lower-key luxury brands without the hype. Gucci, Givenchy, Prada (until the re edition came out), Balenciaga (even pre-scandal), YSL all have lower resale value. I still buy what I like though.
I think you’ll love the mini Alexa.

Hi and thank you for your input. I just started buying luxury bags about 4 years ago so I'm not an expert on quality and durability. I try not to buy based on re sale. I buy because I love the bag. However, I do take into consideration what others with more experience have to say. I don't want to spend an obscene amount of money and then the bag falls apart a year later and the brand charges a fortune to repair. The bag is just gorgeous so I don't think I can bring myself to return it no matter what others say, lol. I think I'm just trying to make myself feel better about the purchase:) By the way, I was pleasantly surprised at the thickness of the leather and it does ok with holding it's shape even empty. I guess it's the "new" and "improved" Alexa.

Hi and thanks for your response. The bag is gorgeous and I paid $300 less than it goes for, but still in the back of my mind, I'm like "what did you do?" LOL
