My very first Coach bag, a black Ace Satchel that started my handbag obsession, lost a foot a year or so ago. I spoke to my SA and I know it could be sent in for repair, but I'm worried that they will ruin the bag based on my first repair experience.

I had a Navy Soft Swagger (lovely soft leather) that I shoulder carried using the removeable strap. The strap kept unclipping from one side, and the bag would then hit the ground. After this happened 5-6 times I searched the forum and saw that others were having the same issue. My bag was sent in for repair, and came back damaged. The sides had been restitched very badly and were coming apart. Additionally, the bag was stuffed into a plastic mailer and sent with no protection. I took it back to the store and the manager was appalled. She spoke to the District Manager and they managed to find the last remaining bag in North America in a US outlet and had it sent to me. I ended up never carrying the bag again; I just gave it to my eldest daughter and she's enjoying using it now. This one seems to be fine.

I wore my Ace Satchel for several months straight and it softened and got some scratches (typical of glovetanned leather) and ultimately lost a foot. I bought a Speedy 25 Samorga organizer that has made a big difference in keeping the bag's structure, but I'm really not wearing it due to the missing metal foot. It looks like the foot is just screwed in and has come off, but I'm paranoid about sending this bag in and having them make a mess of it. The store can't just order a foot in for me; I tried that.

If this was a LV bag I'd sent it in for repair confident that it would come back like new, but I've read about more than a few bad experiences with Coach repairs. There is no tracking down a new Ace Satchel; I think I bought the bag in 2016.

What do you think? Am I being overly paranoid? Maybe I should just start using it again, missing foot or not.

Reading the posts here about bags coming back ruined or with poor repairs has made me decide not to send in bags for repair. I have a Rogue tote that has stitching coming loose that I need to get repaired, and I thought about sending it in for about a minute, but decided I just need to find some locally who can repair the bag.

I say just use and enjoy your Ace even with the missing foot.

I guess Im different. I would expect the same service. I dont drive a Benz but when I take my Honda Pilot for service I they better treat her right or else everyone will heat my mouth. Facts. Dont send it with negative thoughts or you will get negative results

I'm sure she didn't send it in the first time with negative thoughts. I sent in my star rivets crossbody (carried one day) because a star rivet fell off. I sent it to repair with confidence thinking it's just a rivet and shouldn't be a problem at all. They didn't even fix it. I bought it from the outlet sale and luckily there were still some stock left so they sent me another bag instead. I never used it because I was afraid it would happen again.

Hmm. I guess I missed understood her post. Thought she mentioned being afraid.

I had every confidence in them when I sent in my first return. They ruined my bag.

FACT: Coach is responsible for their shoddy repair work. I’m not.

Ugh.... don't send in your rogue tote!! I had a loose stitch on mine where it holds on the straps and all they did was cut off the excess!! My SA sent it out full of stuffing and styrofoam and it came back empty, sides tucked in, then folded in half!!!!! It arrived in the size of box that regular rogues come in, not the larger size like when I first ordered it I had only used the bag once prior to the stitch coming out and it was scratch free. It came back to me all scratched and scuffed up. My old SA sent her rogue tote in for the same problem and they "fixed" it the same way.

They sent back my Swagger the same way - it looked far worse than before it was ‘repaired’.

You’ve all confirmed my hunch; I will either use the Ace as is or have it repaired locally. I don’t trust Coach repairs. I want to use this bag not get a lesser replacement from the current offerings after they destroy a bag I really like.

It would be a quick and easy fix somewhere local. If they aren't busy they might even repair it the moment you walk in. That way you won't have to worry about it being mishandled or stored improperly over night.

You won't find Coach stamped feet for sale but you can find bag feet and but a set and have local luggage repair place change them all out to match!
