World's First DIAMOND Contact Lenses cost a cool $15k

That twinkle in her eye? It might have cost $15,000.

Beauty addicts are eyeing a new trend — custom-made, gold-plated contact lenses featuring 18 twinkling diamonds. The eerie and alluring new jewelry line from Shekhar Eye Research satisfies those who aren’t content to simply boast bling on their skin.

Creator Chandrashekhar Chawan tried his hand at gold-dust contact lenses, but they lacked the “sparkle effect” he was looking for. He found his inspiration, oddly, through cosmetic dentistry: Chawan’s wife had diamonds planted on her teeth at her last dentist visit, and he realized that people loved jewels anywhere and everywhere.

...more at the site.

I think they look uncomfortable to wear, but the refraction is neat.

I love diamonds as much as the next person, but these are kind of overkill. It gives off an interesting look but spending $15k on contact lenses is insane, especially on something like these! Does anyone else feel like Lady Gaga would totally wear these though? :p

edit: oh, I didn't realize they mentioned Lady Gaga in the article!

Here let me stick this diamond encrusted contact into your eye. Oh that blood that keeps oozing out? It's nothing. Your eye is just being cut to x by the DIAMONDS IN YOUR FRIGGIN EYE.

...wait this dude's wife has diamonds in her teeth too?

I would find it very difficult to look someone in the eye in conversation if they were wearing these lenses - they are offputting. I had an acquaintance who wore those cats-eye contacts that were popular years ago, and they had the same effect. I can't see doing something that would make people I'm talking to feel uncomfortable. Besides that, they're tacky as hell.

 What a crazy article. The model's eyes look like they're blood shot and when I got over the frightening glow of the eyes, I cringed thinking about the damage it could (and prob will) do to the eye.

I've seen diamonds on teeth. It's a HUGE thing in foreign countries - an adorable Swedish girl at my law school had a diamond chip on her front tooth. She said in Europe it's a big thing and almost every girl has one. . .

Did you see how BIG the contacts are? They cover the whole front of the eye! Did you see the spray on contacts linked in the article? That would actually be pretty cool if it works
