It actually makes sense to me. His father’s law firm is loyal to his father. Maybe Will wants a firm that will be 100% focused on him. The article is misleading by bringing up Diana. Mishcon de Reya employs hundreds of lawyers worldwide. The legal team who helped his mother in her divorce 30 years ago are probably long retired.
I think that’s the interesting part. When a reigning monarch is on the throne, the tradition is that everything is done to support that monarch. So, William’s wishes would be unimportant until his father passed. This separation is a deviation with tradition and comes with a direct expression that he wants to go a different direction, when the sitting monarch is still ruling. That’s a big deal.

And they are not long gone, the current Deputy Chairman of the firm was Diana’s barrister it’s part of the firm’s claim to fame. Which makes it even more interesting but even if the individuals from the legal team were not still there, they would have known that was a bold move that would make headlines and suggest a real split.

For people who are so savvy about the implications of their actions, this is an interesting choice / decision:

I'm late to this news. I think the royals only use Harbottle and Lewis in media cases, I think they typically use Farrer and Co - have done since the 1930s.

No sign of William and Kate at Windsor on Easter morning, they want to have some extended time together as a family before school starts again apparently.
