I think that’s the interesting part. When a reigning monarch is on the throne, the tradition is that everything is done to support that monarch. So, William’s wishes would be unimportant until his father passed. This separation is a deviation with tradition and comes with a direct expression that he wants to go a different direction, when the sitting monarch is still ruling. That’s a big deal.It actually makes sense to me. His father’s law firm is loyal to his father. Maybe Will wants a firm that will be 100% focused on him. The article is misleading by bringing up Diana. Mishcon de Reya employs hundreds of lawyers worldwide. The legal team who helped his mother in her divorce 30 years ago are probably long retired.
And they are not long gone, the current Deputy Chairman of the firm was Diana’s barrister it’s part of the firm’s claim to fame. Which makes it even more interesting but even if the individuals from the legal team were not still there, they would have known that was a bold move that would make headlines and suggest a real split.
