Yes. I did this with my M Alexa. I loved it from the first day I got it but rarely used it until over 6 mths after I made the purchase. After that I've used it a ton. My needs may have changed or I just needed to get over some lock in my mind (it's too expensive for me, too fragile, too this and too that - I do this with nearly all of my more expensive bags). I also have a bag I've owned for at least 5 yrs and never even put my stuff in it. It's vintage and made in my hometown. I have no plans of ever using it, then again I will never sell it either.

Yup, I already have the bag.

I can get all my money back if I return it.

I always think fashion/trends changes but my taste doesn't (usually) - unless I move to a very different life/country the same needs will apply. If I loved the bag and I could see me using it in a practical way (even if it may mean someday) I'd keep.

Sometimes I love (almost) 'everything' from quite a few brands and sometimes I have to sit out for years. Great, I'll have a bag waiting.

I’d still say return. There are amazing bags coming out every season or two. When you eventually get a lifestyle that matches this type of bag, you could find it looks dated or really like a current bag more.

I really strongly suggest you return it. There is no dearth of amazing bags over a very short timespan of just a few (say 2-3) years. Wait for the bag that thrills your heart AND is something you can use. These aren’t vases. They’re wearable art that should serve us and our functional needs.

I guess the real question is do you plan on using it? Or is it a bag you would rarely use? If you will hardly ever use it, I'd say return and get one you love that you will use a lot.
I think it's a very versatile bag myself.

It's a pretty and classic bag, you love how it looks, you got a good deal, is there a reason you won't use it? Being black it will go with everything, you can dress it up or down. It looks like a decent size.

On your question, I don't "need" anything but I'm definitely still shopping :-D I do try to be a little more practical with getting shoes and purses I can wear often. For shoes I won't buy thin stiletto heels anymore unless they are really special, as I have quite a few and just don't wear them often due to comfort and stability. For purses it's best if it can fit my wallet, I have a few small purses where I have to just put a few cards in a cardholder but I just don't use them often as I like to have all my stuff with me even though I don't even need most of it (but what if...). One purse I really like but it is so small all I can fit is my phone, a lipstick, and put my ID and 1 credit card in its card slot, that's about it. A few times when I wore it shopping, I just put my wallet in a little shopping bag and acted like I had made a purchase :-D

I have some vintage Coach bags that I will never get rid of, but there are only four of them. One is from the Bonnie Cashin era so it’s going nowhere. I have the first designer bag that I ever paid full price for with a work bonus. One bag that I thought about giving away, I actually used the whole summer.

Now that I think about it, I’m due for a closet clean out. Off I go!

Return.

I feel the question of this thread doesn’t quite line up with your situation. My initial interpretation was “how long does it make sense to hold onto a bag that’s been in your collection, if your life has changed and you don’t have the same use for it you once did.” That’s a sunk cost where the bag has mileage on it.

But for your situation, it seems you’re considering purchasing a bag you can’t use, and I can’t see any amount of love for the style justifying that. In your shoes, I’d hold out for something that you loved AND fit your life :)

I will for classic styles that I may go back to. Currently I have two Chanel caviar mini flaps (one black, one ivory) and I don’t use either anymore but still want to keep in my collection.

Hi everyone,

I’ve decided to keep the bag. I obsessed about the bag for a year so I figured to just treat myself and keep it. Also with the recent price increase, the amount I paid ends up as 63.3% of the RRP.

If my feelings change and I regret keeping it (so far, I’m still feeling giddy and have heart eyes when I look at it) or I end up not using it, I’ll just sell it.

Thank you!
