I think that the recent re-release and updating of Coach's classic style bags is a great thing. I work in the city and I see a lot of vintage Coach bags being carried by woman of all ages and many men carry the briefcases and messenger bags, too.
But personally I don't see why anyone should spend hundreds of dollars on a new classic when there are loads of these bags available cheap that just need a little TLC to be beautiful again!
I know that not everyone cares for vintage or used bags, and that's fine; but the point of this reveal is that anyone can own a beautiful classic for very little money, effort or skill.
My advice to novice rehabbers is to start out with an inexpensive, dark-colored, unlined, glove-tanned bag that is in pretty good shape and it's hard to go wrong.
But always remember to have the bag authenticated here on TPF because you don't want to put any effort or money into a fake!
I am revealing my rehab of a black Ramblers Legacy 9061 that was made in Costa Rica in 2000. I bought it for just $17.53 at the Salvation Army Store and had it authenticated by Hyacinth. It is currently available as a "Coach Original" from the Coach website for $258.
In reality, this bag practically rehabbed itself so please don't compliment my skills. All I did was give it a bath in the sink, stuff it with towels to let it dry, and then rub some condition into the leather. That's all! It's easy!
Here are some before and after pics of my Rambler, I will post some more in the next message. I've also included a screenshot of the current listing for the bag on the Coach website.
