Hi everyone,
Though I am new to this forum, I have been dreaming of a Birkin for a very long time. In 2000, when I started college, I saw a woman with a (seemingly) effortless, understated and chic outfit with a floppy well used Birkin getting into a New York City cab and I thought...that will be ME!

As my quest has been rather unsuccessful, I have also considered resorting to a reseller. I follow quite a few on Instagram and looked at some on eBay.

One thing I saw a week or two ago kind of upset me. A known reseller uploaded a Birkin for sale from what I think RIGHT inside the store or soon after the individual left. I think the photo was captioned "just got this! who wants it?" or something of that sort. That photo has since been removed and changed to a more "professional" photograph. My issue with this scenario is that this reseller has many followers on social media and posts photos of themselves quite often on there. Why would H sell to this individual???

I do not quite understand...

Because once you buy something it's yours and you're free to do with it as you wish? Should retailers be tracking what happens to goods once they're sold? And while some resellers are known to Hermes many are not. Lots of customers buy and immediately flip, including tons of PFers. There is often a lot of money to be made flipping/reselling. There's your motive.

Usually the staff knows if they're selling to a reseller. It doesn't stop them (of course) but they're aware. My boutique knows which of their clients flips the bags quickly, who keeps them and which are international resellers and just in town to purchase in bulk. I can imagine how frustrating this must be to you. But if you keep at it, regardless of whatever venue you choose (e.g. reseller, boutique, etc), your reward, in this case a bag (I think), will be that much sweeter. Good luck in your hunt.

H staff have budgets/targets each month. If they know they're going to get $X from Reseller, and that will get them on or near budget, why wouldn't they? I don't follow these people, but I'd be interested to see whether their purchases happen closer to the second half or end of the month, than Day 1 (when stores may be more anxious for the sale if things have been slow MTD). The reseller market arguably hasn't hurt the brand, especially since many sell for offensive (IMHO) premiums over the store prices, fuelling the mystique of supply scarcity in general. So I can't see why head office would actively discriminate against them with a no-sell to policy. Best of luck SandySummer, don't let the secondary market dissuade you from the boutique.

Thanks for your encouraging words!

In my quest for the Birkin, I have found myself exploring and appreciating other items in the Hermes product line. I guess that's the point of the mystique of the quest?

I know it's frustrating to see these people get Bs and Ks and then turn around and flip them when your heart aches for ONE of your very own. It's one of those things that I can't explain. All I can say is... try not to focus on it or let it get you down. Hopefully you are working with a good SA who understands your wants and will offer you a bag. Do look at other threads on tips for scoring a B or K as they really are helpful and true (as ridiculous as some of the tips may seem)... I have had instant luck, where I asked for a B and got it that day and then I have had experiences where I literally bought items from every department in the store and finally got offered the opportunity to SO my dream bag. Don't focus on them... focus on you. :hugs:

I think I know which reseller you are referring to. I follow one who posted a picture of a birkin with the offer to sell. This was in Las Vegas. I do have to say I thought the reseller had balls posting the bag immediately for sale on IG immediately after purchase.

For many this is about "business".. While many don't approve of their "tactics"
nonetheless its business..

If I was looking for a B or a K, would go the route of pre-owned.. For many resllers
these bags are in good condiition & they can be found perhaps for a price, but
if you don't want to wait 2 or more years, not so many options available
