Hi everyone I am new here but a long long time reader and a CHANEL lover , but my question is why are SA from Chanel so mean??? I shopped at Chanel before at Neiman Marcus in Troy, MI and at Saks Boutiques. I understand i might not have a full history list of a lot of items and plus i don't own a classic bag, but I have a couple of SLGs and a few jewelry pieces. Sometimes i just like to walk around and admire certain pieces, but i feel that most of them are pretentious and entitled, they don't even approach or ask if I need something, did anyone here have a similar experience??? I was looking for a classic flap card holder and when I ask if they had one available they look at me like I was an alien weird out.

its bad. I’m surprised management allows this awful behavior, but then again they consistently have waitlists for their product so maybe they don’t care.

I’ve visited multiple Chanel boutiques around the US and I’m either ignored or talked to like I’m garbage. My last visit kind of soured me to the whole brand. I will still keep the Chanel bags that I have b/c I love them, but prob wont buy any more Chanel. i know others have said Hermès SAs can be awful as well, but the few times I’ve been to Hermès boutiques, the SAs were nothing but helpful and kind. Dior SAs have also always been wonderful.

Ugh, I remember walking into Hermes, looking very casual, nobody even approached me. Left the store with a bad taste so for higher end goods, I just shop at LV. So far in the past 2 months, I bought over 10k of bags, and not SLGs. Some SAs have an air of superiority which just baffles me.

Ha, this is so different than for me.
I go to my H boutique in athletic shoes, jeans, and T-shirts.
I know all the employees by name, including the store manager.

However, if I go into NM dressed like that, it's like: "I'm sorry, but I don't have time for you right now!"

I seriously think that everyone who had a bad experience should call chanel and let them know. I don't care how much work or wishlist they have to keep up with. Everyone should be treated the same no matter how u are dress. At the end of the day even if I am spending the minimum amount in a boutique they should be glad I am purchasing something, thank god i can afford something from Chanel because of many of us CHANEL SA have a job.

With things like this I always think it's a service, if you are not happy take your money elsewhere. We return to places where we feel appreciated. In all the times I visited Chanel the only time I had crap service was when I was trying to return some espadrilles to a dept store and even then I dealt with it knowing I had a right to ask for what I wanted and got what I wanted. As the service was rubbish I haven't been back to that particular location. I live in London though so have plenty of choice for stores.

Unpopular opinion: for every entitled SA, there are equally entitled customers.

I do agree, if you have a bad experience: complain up the chain, go to a different boutique. but this ‘they are the salesperson, I’m the one who has the money, I can easily drop bills on high end, and should be GLAD to I deign to shop in their boutique and pay their salary!’ rubs me the wrong way too. You are paying for an item, they are providing a service - consider yourselves even.

OP, I did not get this vibe from your post. But associates are people too with good days and bad days. If you get crappy service, move on to another SA. Honestly, I can count on two hands the amount of Terri-bad service in 10 some years I’ve received.

Wow, this surprises me so much. I have only been to a Chanel inside of NM one time and it was such a pleasant experience. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m from PA, and there are strict rules due to COVID. One customer on either side of the store and you wait in line to get inside. So if they didn’t do their job it would be pretty lousy.

I do wonder if I had just been able to wander in it would have been different? But the SA took the time to explain the different bag styles and leathers to me, and even the back story and history behind the camellia, and why the inside of classic flap is red and not black. He was so knowledgeable and kind. I feel I really lucked out. I will return any time now, confident that the next experience will be the same.

I haven't been to the actual store in a while but I'm from Michigan and started my chanel experience buying from the chanel boutique in NM at Somerset. I've only had excellent experience. My regular SA that I normally went to just left so I can't refer you to anyone.

I just purchased earrings from a SA at the chanel nordstrom in Oregon today and she was so nice too. I was introduced to her by my sister who buys alot from her.

Im sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. Maybe they were having a bad day like another person posted above. I hope you find a good SA.

I totally agree with you but nowadays i don't understand why people treat each other like that in both sides. Just be nice i work too with people and even when somebody is nasty i try and kill them with kindness.

Thats normally how some employees who work under commission are honestly. They judge you as soon as you walk inside the store and if you look like you arent going to buy anything then they wont bother to ask if you need any help finding anything so they dont “waste their time” (lose the opportunity of hoping for someone that looks like they are going to buy today to walk in and try to assist them asap before their other fellow co-workers get the sale). Its a shady business in commissioned work places, it really is. Thats why you hear times where one SA is helping you then they move onto another customer because they know they’ll buy something and then some even come back to you sometimes but i would take that opportunity there to ask another SA for help that way the original SA that helped you doesnt get any of the sale OR only half of the sale instead of all of it lol because they’ll have to share the sale or else they will get into an argument with their fellow coworkers. In some cases, some SA really do get honestly busy, but thats something you just understand/feel/know right there during the whole shopping experience.

I would like to say that Chanel does not work on commission – my SA in a full Chanel boutique (not one inside a department store), shared with me that they changed things a few years ago so the SAs do not have to compete with each other for commissions and are paid fairly now. (He once shared the stress of the commission process and there was a case where a high profile client decided to return $10,000 of merchandise last minute and his leaders told him that was going to hurt him for the month, unless he made up for it.)

I noticed the clerks in the boutiques inside the department stores sometimes don't act the nicest. I was snubbed by a Bloomingdales Chanel clerk once when I asked nicely about the classic flap bag availability in black. That clerk turned her nose up at me and my mom and declared (without making eye contact) that they didn't have one in stock and didn't know when they were going to get one in. My mom was appalled by this girl's attitude and said we should go to the standalone Chanel boutique instead, where my favorite SA works. He was gracious and answered all of my questions, which resulted in me walking out with my dream bag that day.

I am sorry you experienced such rude behavior from a clerk. I would elevate it to Chanel's customer service if you remember their information.
