Who wears their expensive watch in the pool/ocean

No I don't. Mine are vintage, precious and both not replaceable.

If a watch is modern, says it's waterproof, dive-proof, submarine-proof :D then fair enough.

I just got my Rolex a few weeks ago so I haven't tried it yet in the pool. Going on vacation the 17th - 24th and I'm told it's very safe to do so but I don't know, I'm a scaredy cat!!

Never.
I have a Rolex oyster and despite the name I don't wish to expose my watch to salt, sand, pool chemicals , or sunscreen. Yuck. Not taking any chances. Not worth the risk of damage nor loss.
Besides, I rarely even wear a watch when I'm on vacation...

I am hesitant due to the same reasons but then I wear my diamond studs and diamond pendant in pool/ocean/beach, so was wondering if I'm being overly cautious about my watch. I do take off my rings but that is different as they would easily slip off in the water.

Honestly, you shouldn't wear any gold jewelry in a pool or hot tub. Chlorine can damage the gold. Salt water won't damage it, but barracudas are attracted to shiny things and will try to eat them!

I don't have extremely expensive watch. I have 3 Rolex which a lot of people considered as entry level among watch collectors. I do feel comfortable wearing both Rolex to pool, I don't like to swim in sea water so never use mine to beach. One of my Rolex is meant for Diver so I know it's ok for pool. Anyway all Rolex has water resistant that's good enough for swimming only. The only Rolex I won't bring to swim is the vintage from my mum that has leather strap.

Chlorine can damage gold? What about Ammonia - I typically clean my diamond studs and diamond pendant in hot water and ammonia with a baby toothbrush. If the chlorine level in a pool is enough to damage gold, wouldn't it be too high for a person to be in the same pool too?

I definitely keep watches out of hot tubs and saunas - I read something about over time the fast change in heat/moisture can impact the seals.

We're in the ocean alot as live on a island and we've never had issues with barracuda's coming close to us when we're swimming.

Chlorine bleach, AKA Clorox, can cause gold alloys to disintegrate. I don't know if the concentration in pool water is high enough, but I personally wouldn't risk it.

I bought a Rolex for this reason. I am at an age where I want to enjoy my nice things and not worry! If you have your watch serviced as you should it will be fine. they are made for water.
Just my thoughts!
