If you are considering the small envelope I agree with @422stewart . Some YSL bags tend to run small and the envelope is one of them.

I have it in the size medium and love it and it does not look or feel like a medium to me.

No experience with the toy loulou but it is very popular with great reviews. I believe it has a divider which some people like and others do not (because it may compromise a bit of space).

If you have not done so yet, maybe go try them both on and put your stuff inside.
Good luck! And happy shopping!

It depends, I got the large envelope bag a few years ago because I fell in love with the structure of it however it is a big stiff trying to put things in it and take things out, the width is not big. The LouLou has more give and stretch just not sure if it will crease (not sure if that is a bother to you)

Tough choice. As a mini bag carrier, I would probably go for the toy loulou. Some things can be deal breakers, so it's all preference. I definitely prefer the one compartment on the envelope, slimmer profile and shape over the loulou. However, the strap is not detachable and it is also shorter than the loulou for crossbody wearers like myself (55cm vs 57cm/detachable). That is the only deal breaker on that bag for me (I am 5'7"), and likely a non-issue for those that are shorter or prefer shoulder carry. Loulou has the detachable strap so you can add a chain for an evening out, so it has nice versatility. The compartments on the loulou, however, do make it a little tougher to get a phone in and out.

100% Toy Loulou. I got mine preloved for a good price as I thought it was cute but never would have thought I’d use it as much as I have! It’s an extremely versatile bag, you can wear crossbody casually and fit your day to day bits inside but also wear as an evening bag. It definitely looks smaller on the outside than it actually is!

Beautiful choices! I’d have a hard time choosing as well. I am lusting after the envelope bags but the sales associate told me they really aren’t meant to be everyday bags even though the leather is durable. He said he saw people coming in with concerns about corner wear and couldn’t understand why they were being used everyday. I don’t entirely agree with him bc I would totally wear it everyday in black or silver hardware but I guess I can see where he was going with it. I only saw the medium in person and it’s a nice size to fit essentials and prob a bit extra.

I think the toy Lou Lou is more durable, versatile and everyday. I love playing with the different strap options on mine. I’m not a fan of the compartments though because it’s difficult to get my iPhone 13 Pro Max in and out of it. I can fit my essentials plus sunglasses and I use the built in card holder as a wallet. I have very little kids so on one hand this doesn’t get used as much because it is small but I also don’t worry about it around my kids bc of the durability.

How do you plan on using them? What I ended up doing was getting a preloved toy Lou Lou and then I got the triquilt wristlet and attached the conversion insert and chain to give me the feel of the envelope bag in a smaller version. It only fits my phone, keys, cardholder and a few makeup products but it might actually not be all that much smaller than the small envelope.

Not sure how much my rambling helped but I love both of these bags and would have trouble deciding as well. If you can see them in person, you should definitely try them out. Keep us posted!

Thanks for all the views. They are helpful although I think I was secretly hoping to get lots of positives about the small envelope as I really love the look of it. I have actually ordered both as I had a 15% code for a retailer so I can see them side by side soon. I may have also accidentally ordered a preloved small puffer in so black as it was a great price so I may end up with that one instead!

Have you tried them on? I have the envelope bag and the chain is much shorter and too short for a crossbody. I have the Saint Laurent Mini lou quilted leather camera bag and the chain hits longer and the interior holds much more than the envelope bag.

Funny you mention. I think you are going to end up loving the puffer. That is my pick over the other two. Let us know what you decide to keep!

I have tried the toy Loulou in the past but not the small envelope. I’m 5’9” so it sounds like the chain won’t work for me as it has to be suitable for crossbody. The puffer wasn’t originally on my list as it’s relatively big and I was looking for a grab bag for the school run etc to hold keys, phone and card holder (and possibly glasses but that’s not essential). I have a Pochette Metis for when I need a bag that kind of size. I’m thinking the toy puffer might be the ideal size but don’t really want to pay full price for it and haven’t seen one preloved that has been good value. I’ve got a Coach camera bag so probably wouldn’t get another camera. Despite their perfect capacity it is not my favourite style of bag for some reason.

I use my medium envelope crossbody 90% of the time and I'm 5' 5.5" and it's perfect for me. So yes it maybe a bit short on you.

I had the puffer in the size small for about 2 years and to me, it was a little too bulky. It was a wonderful comfy and cute bag and could fit a lot! But it just stuck out a lot from my body when I wore it crossbody and it just looked and felt awkward to me.

Following up with @Nina0271 , the loulou can crease, but is more likely to crease on larger versions of the bag (but it may eventually crease)
Here are some threads on creasing for the loulou bag:

I do agree that the envelope is a stiff bag. The treated leather makes it very durable and easy to clean but when new it needs a bit of breaking in.
It's not the kind of leather that will soften or relax over time either. I'm more of a minimalist, I just like to carry my cardholder, 6 ring key holder with car fob, and cell phone in my bags and I'm pretty much good to go. So that's probably why the medium envelope works well for me.

Hope that helped a little more!
