Hi everyone!

I have been saving for a Chanel Classic Flap M/L for a while, and have wanted one for years. But with all the price increases and probably more to come, not to mention the quality issues, I'm just not sure I feel it is worth it anymore (for me). It's not just the bag, but the whole buying experience that seems stressful. I think I'm also feeling a bit sick of the games that Chanel seem to be playing with customers of late. I don't really like the idea of preloved either at the prices they currently are.

I have also loved the Panthere watch and love bracelet SM for a long time, so I'm considering just putting the money towards these pieces instead. I have some Cartier pieces already including the Tank Solo and wear them all the time, and can wear them to work. Whereas, with the Chanel I would only be able to wear on weekends. The whole experience with Cartier just feels more worth it to me now.

I don't know if I'm being too sentimental about this, but I love the whole experience that comes with buying luxury which is why I'm feeling put off Chanel in favour of Cartier, in addition to the fact that I can enjoy my Cartier pieces more frequently.

If anyone is able to give their thoughts that would be appreciated :heart:

Thank you! yes that is what I'm thinking, for the cost per wear to make sense to me I would need to be able to wear it more. And jewellery/watches also look nice with my work outfits.

I love my Chanel’s, but my mini vintage YG panthere watch is hands down, one of the best purchases I’ve made.

If you have an extensive non-Chanel bag collection and a smaller jewelry collection, then I suggest going for jewelry. If you have a diverse jewelry collection, but no classic purses I would go for the Chanel.

I may switch purses but I always wear my Cartier panthere watch and trinity cord bracelet. I would love to have a love bracelet some day.
Have you looked at pre-owned watches? I got a screaming good deal on mine. Came with the box, booklets and everything. I had to add a link but that was nothing compared to what I saved.

I'm at purse peace after collecting Chanel bags for years. I've stopped buying after the last 21A. Now I've switched to fine jewellery as obviously cost per wear matters more to me now.

It really depends where you are now. Fine jewellery will never replace a CF. and a CF will never replace a watch. Either one you choose now, you may yearn for the second of the 3 in your wish list. And then the 3rd to come to complete ticking your check list.

Luxury goods prices all go up every year - more exponentially for Chanel.

Whichever you choose, can't go wrong :) Happy shoppin!

Thank you! I don't really use designer bags much to be honest, I'm pretty minimal. I use Longchamp for work because it is more understated and my Neverfull on the weekends.

Yes that is true, jewellery cannot replace a CF and vice versa.

I would recommend Cartier over Chanel. I spent $$$ on bags over the years and regret it. Jewelry gives me more joy and now I am building up my fine jewelry collection and I get to actually use those items regularly as opposed to my bags. I don’t think it’s worth it to buy a Chanel flap at these astronomical prices and wear it only occasionally on the weekends. Seems like a better value is the Cartier.

That's how I feel about Chanel Classic Flaps now sadly, its just crazy the price! I would also feel a bit nervous carrying such a valuable bag if I was walking around alone. Solid gold from Cartier feels way more worth the price and can be worn discretely.
