On big pieces of jewelry I like classic. I do think if I was getting a solitaire I wouldn't go to Tiffany's, more bang for the buck. What else is nice about a solitaire is down the road if you want to upgrade or change it without losing the sentimental value of your ring you can change the setting or have it made into a 3 stone ring(my husband did that for me for special occasion).

Try the rings on and get the one that calls out to you. Also do try on wedding bands too as you'll want something to match down the road.

the yellow sola! Just make sure if you do have it custom made that the diamond is not chemically treated. The treatments may cause cancer I heard. At least Tiffany's yellow diamond comes from the Ellendale mine in Australia from what I read online.

As someone who never got a solitaire, I vote for #2--I have an emerald shaped sapphire with baguettes as my engagement ring, and I have loved having something "different". People always notice and compliment me on it.

That being said, I always joke with my husband that since I never got a solitaire, I am expecting one someday. Still waiting!!
