just an update: i got the "beloved india" in the colourway as in my previous post. my brother went to the bond st. hermes, but they didn't have "dancing pearls" in the light brown or dark brown colourways. and the hermes in selfridges only had the orange dancing pearls. my brother looked at the "chasse en inde" in the colourway posted above, but it looks too dark and so we decided to get the "beloved india". i won't get it until i move back to UK though.

thank you everyone for your suggestions and help....you ladies rock:ty:

Hi, good morning if you are in the UK and hi to all others...I am new to Hermes...once i strayed into their shop in Selfridges last Christmas after a disagreement with Prada over a brand new bag which was faulty. I couldn't believe the style and refinement of it all in Hermes but came away thinking wow...but not in my league. However i persevered and bought myself an enamel clic clac and some perfume. But the bags are too way out of my purse so make do with balenciaga which are expensive enough.
Anyhow i just want opinion, i'm 49, in fact i laughed at a thread on here asking if scarves were frumpy and i found myself questioning, 'maybe they can be' but then i remembered my age!! What i need help with is where to start on the scarves, I have bought a couple of old hermes scarves from ebay but they have been marked and stained, and whilst i can appreciated the vintage designs, i feel a bit vintage myself and just wonder if i should take myself off and buy a new one. however, and this is where i need the help, i have a small frame, size 8 and 5ft 3in, that me, are the 90cm scarves too big for me, should i concentrate on the little twillys (although i dont know how to wear them) or the smaller scarves (and they are cheaper) am i being daft? Help me please, Kind regards...

Hi IWAH and welcome to the "orange side" as we addicts call it!! You've probably got some great vintage scarves, and if they're stained you can hand wash or dry clean them to try and get rid of some of the stains.
As for your size, I'm close the same size (5'6" and UK 4-6) and I wear 90cms with no problem. The 70cms are also a great option because the vintage/washed silk makes them really easy to tie and wear. If you check out the main section of the Hermes forum, you'll find lots of helpful threads like http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes/which-scarf-pointu-pochette-are-you-wearing-today-113322.html which has pictures of our members of all ages wearing scarves. It's really inspirational. There are other threads on how to tie scarves in both the main section and the reference section. Additionally, you can go to Hermes.com and download the playtime with your scarf pdf, it has pictures of different ways to tie scarves. If you go to an Hermes boutique, ask for a set of knotting cards when you buy a scarf. They don't always have them available but if you can get a set they are a great resource. MaiTai posted scans of the current edition in the main section, too.
I found that it took a little while to get used to wearing scarves, so just throw one on and go- you'll get comfortable with it once you've been wearing them for a few days.

Thankyou so much for your kind advise...One last question, do the vintage scarves, pocket, and twilly have hand rolled edges or are they machined....I have so much to learn!!

Vintage scarves and pocket squares will have hand rolled edges. Twillies do not, they have seams on the inside so there are no exposed edges to hem, if that makes sense.
