I hate to admit I have a bit too many Asian themed silks. So here's my pile and maybe we should play the name that scarf quiz while we're at it. I bet you will all know their names by now...! And one that came home with me of the new collection too. I think Pierina and Ladyb have both influenced me towards the cool tones lately. No idea why that is. Suffice to say I do adore the blues these past few seasons, of course combined with those pops of red, yellow and oranges. Bateaux by Honore. I think I may have more of her shawls than any other artist. This one reminds me of the tropics and is my first nautical themed GM. My early VDay gift. More comments later silk friends!

WOW! Lanit, that blue Bateaux looks fabulous on you.

Happy Lunar New Year my silk friends! Wish everyone a silky smooth new year!

My contribution to this week is my (again) Turandot scarf! Favorite formal Asian scarf!

I simply adore this scarf as it has many Asian symbols.
The peach flowers: Peach flower is the traditional must-have flower for the Lunar New Year in my hometown. Every single household has it in their house during the first 15 days on the new year. It represents good luck, beauty, and prosperity.

And the flowers in real life:

The 8-shaped jar (a popular object in South Eastern fairy tales, often seen on heavenly places) with a Chinese character (that literally means double-happiness, I believe, often seen at weddings as a symbol of marriage).

Beautiful flowers with the two butterflies wandering around. A pair of butterflies often means a happy romantic relationship. Many Asian stories mention that couples who are in love, when they die they will turn into butterflies so that they can travel together for good.

Lotus: a symbol of purity and Buddhism.

The carp (fish) and the turtle: Long story short, in many Southeast Asian culture, carp fishes symbolize the courage and enduring strong will that eventually will become fruitful and pay off, i.e. people who dare to try will prevail (like the prince in the Turandot opera). In some traditional Asian fairy tales, an ordinary carp fish was believed to be able to pass the very strong and challenging waves to reach the heaven's gate, and subsequently transformed into a dragon.
Turtle: an animal that is believed to live thousands of years, hence symbolizes longevity. Same with peaches (people who eat peaches from heaven's gardens will gain immortality).

Dragon: symbolizes the king/queen and his direct family. Pomegranates symbolize fertility.

Phoenix (at the upper left hand corner of the scarf) represents people born with noble blood.

All in all, my own interpretation of this scarf is that just like the Turandot story, people who dare to overcome challenges will be able to win their love and live happily ever after with their beloved.

I LOVE this!! Love all the Asian/Chinese details! I wish I knew about H scarves when this beauty was released. What year is this from? any chance of a re-issue?

Happy New Year!! :)

JP 536 saidHere's a pic of les Cannes in the blue cw that I've posted before. I may have deleted the pic of the mod pic with my black cw. The black was the 1st. I didn't care for the design. But my SA insisted I try it on. And wow! Sold!! :)

Your Cannes looks fabulous in this colour, love the turquoise border.

Thank you frou frou! I think Cannes looks fab in every cw! :)

jp, Love your navy les Cannes! Once again, you produced a winning combo with your sweater and scarf. Love the belt, too, AND LOOK at your fabulous NAVY nails!!!! Love it!!!

Thank you lb! You'd really love this cw.. It's marine but seems brighter :). The nails are Essie's Aruba blue, so kinda bright. I know you love your blues, as do I! :)

jp - both your silks this week have been winners. The purple Camails was terrific on you - especially paired with your top, and Les Cannes is a classic! ITA with froufrou - that little aqua border just makes me swoon.

Awwww... Thanks lanit! The les Cannes was an old pic so it want technically from this week. :). I have to learn from you ladies to really venture into some brighter colors as the turquoise is typically "bright" for me. :)

Thanks for the sweet comments Seton,Etoile de mer,essiedub,VnSoie,jp536

essiedub This colour way of Kimonos et Inros is from the original issue 1986 . .You are so right , it's a 2 in 1 design , the other diagonal has peach and yellow rather than the lilac/bue .
I'll do some different photos of it later as it really is a design that never dates and I'd love to see another reissue .

Chestnutty - thank you for all the beautiful details and description of the symbolisms! Turandot is such a rare silk - I was lucky to have come across a twin to yours. I will appreciate some of the details even more now. It looks fantastic on you. I am craving froufrou's red one as HG.

In Regards to CLG x Hermes -Yes I have seen the new collection. Very avant garde :) However, I currently have my eye on either a Jaune Echec Au Roi 90cm or a Le Mors 90cm in Fuschia :) We shall see :) Thank you for your kind words regarding my new (and first) H scarf! I adore her :)
