A blue dial with Roman numerals is on my short list. For me, the blue is definitely more wearable than black. I like the blue with a Jubilee bracelet better than Oyster. Smooth or fluted? If you are worried about scratching the bezel, fluted really masks them better. Have fun with your search!

I’m looking for an everyday Rolex - not too blingy and wearable with everything. I already have a 36mm steel, oyster band, silver diamond dial with white gold bezel and find it too pretty for everyday - I’m constantly worrying about scratching the bezel.
So because of that I still wear my little Cartier Tank which unfortunately isn’t my taste anymore. And since I have three of these little Cartier’s that I don’t wear, I decided to sell them all and buy one Rolex that I will wear everyday.
I want an sporty look and I guess I want a dark dial. Even though I still can’t decide on weather jubilee or oyster bracelet and weather Roman or baton index (I like both) - I know that I want smooth bezel. But the thing I’m really totally indecisive is the dial color. I’ve always had a soft sport for blue dials, more so on men’s watches, but I just find it classier and softer than black. What do you think - is blue for a women wearable for everyday or should I better go with black?
I just want something completely different than the Rolex I already have...thanks so much for your opinions! Oh, and I would love to see pictures of your blue dialed Rolexes!! Thx
It sounds like we have similar tastes. This is my 36mm, and I went for a grey dial as I thought it would be suitable for both smart/casual days. 20181125_135814.jpg

Hi! Exciting time ahead for you!!

I don’t think I may be much help. But I bought the silver dial in sticks in the 31mm with fluted and jubilee. I thought it was understated enough but still femme.

I get where you’re coming from. I originally liked really blingy Rolex look. I was going for the bronze with diamond VI. But I just can’t get myself to flash that in front of my patients you see. As this was my first, I wanted to be able to use it daily.

I can see a blue dial being daily driver. Can’t help much with sticks vs roman. Both are really awesome.
I get where you come from not wanting to flash your watch in front of patients. A while ago I needed a new big window installed (it was gonna be pricey so I definitely shopped around). One man who came to my little house to discuss his windows drove a BMW and wore a blingy Rolex. That turned me off, I got my window elsewhere. You never know how a customer is going to react to something like that--patients even more so. My Rolex is blingy enough for me--the fluted bezel makes it sparkly enough imo and the roman numerals seem to add a touch of class (once again--imo)..

Good luck with your choice and be sure to model it here!

I had the same desire as you when I got my rolex. Didn't want anything blingy or noticeable. I got a pink (salmon) dial with smooth bezel. I haven't had any trouble with the bezel scratching. I think if I were to change the dial blue would be one of my top choices.

If I were you, I would feel the same about the window-maker. There is just something about a blingy watch on a man - now, if he wore a sub (preferably no date), that’s a different matter :D. I know it sounds prejudicial, but we are humans after all and have prejudices and opinions.

Also, I work sometimes with underprivileged patients. I did notice the other doctors in our practice wear understated watches - mostly stainless steel. But they are also older guys though hehe. Most hide them in sleeves. However much we say it doesn’t, but the watch you wear CAN actually change people’s perception of you.

Thanks for the input so far! I also looked at the Rhodium dial with Roman markers and like it a lot. Is it darker than silver?
So right now I’m thinking about these:

Rhodium is darker than silver and I think pic 1 is a good choice. Love Roman Numeral dial over stick.

Don’t worry about scratches on the domed bezel as steel can be polished compared to the white gold fluted which can’t because it’s gold. I found out about this when sending my 10-year old Datejust for polishing.

You shouldn't be afraid of scratching your watch. It's a beautiful time tool. I think scratches gives it some charm and you always can have it serviced ;)

I quite like the blue dial one without the Roman numerals which looks a bit busy, if you ask me. And still don't understand the numerals in general are flipped and the way how they render IV annoys me, lol

Me too! Haha.

I really liked the diamond on VI, I was gonna go for that. But Something about it bugged me. It was when I saw a Patek (in this forum) with the VI in upright position that I realised the inverted VI bugged me hehe.

To the OP, the Rhodium has a dark sheen to it. Definitely darker than silver. And you are right - Very pretty IRL. I found that I had to strain to read it though, silver was easier to read on. So, from your choices, I would go with blue with sticks in smooth and oyster. In fact, I am going to find this in a 34 to “gift” my hubby. But really, I will likely end up using it lol

Since you want a daily watch and you are worried about scratches you should forget about a smooth bezel and oyster bracelet. They will both show scratches much more easily than fluted and jubilee. There is a functional aspect behind the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet.

Love, love the blue dial. That’s my next watch with diamond markers though.

I have a rolex with oyster bracelet/smooth bezel. I've been wearing it pretty much daily for over five years with no noticeable scratches

OP-
I like the third option. I’m thinking of buying this one.

My husband wore his smooth bezel only to the office and had to have it buffed twice in 5 years. Sold it after that. The oyster band didn’t look so great either. His Patek Nautilus wears much better because of the satin finish and his latest Rolex is fluted and jubilee. So far so good. We both like the look better. My recommendation is also based on the OP being so worried about scratches.

Hey everyone, thanks so far for all your thoughts! I hope that I can go into a store in the next few days and try some watches - I´m still debating weather blue is versatile enough for everyday - would love to see some pics of blue dial here.
As for scratches - it sounds totally legit that jubilee and fluted is best for hiding daily wear traces, but I so much prefer the domed bezel and oyster band. Like I said, I want it sporty and casual. I will post pics as soon as I tried on a few options!
