Which Rolex?

I think that the 31 is a perfect size. The larger one is lovely and definitely in fashion right now. Rolex is a "chunkier" style of watch and, if you wear a long sleeve, even the 31 fills up the space. I have a 31 and love it.

Last night I wore my SS midsize and DH made a comment that he sort of liked the size already. I am so confused because he is the one suggesting 36mm in the first place! I just don't want to make a wrong decision on such a pricey item...

Thank you again for all of your honest opinions. I'll keep you posted if we agree on something :)

Hi ladies,

My husband is looking for a Rolex, but not sure which one to get. He wants the model which can carry him from suit to smart/casual. We both bounce from one model to the other...we really need help. So...

...which is the most yummy Rolex between the following:

GMT
Submariner
Explorer II (the new edition which is now 42mm, orange hand instead of red)

The only thing we have been able to decide on is the black dial.

I would be, as always, grateful for your advice.

Thanks

They all have fans, but the new Exp II is certainly bigger, on the "maxi" side for Rolex. Does he have a size preference? And for the Sub and GMT, I assume you're looking at the new ceramics, right? (Ceramic bezel.)

The Sub is of course the most iconic and classic sport Rolex of them all. The GMT is very well loved among Rolex people, and if having a second time zone would be helpful, that's a great bonus to the GMT.

There's excitement but also divided opinion about the new Explorers, with not everyone loving the new large scale (for Rolex) and some not loving the orange hand. I haven't seen it in person yet. You may know that the previous Explorers have not been as beloved in Rolex resale compared to the Sub and GMT.

He should go to the dealer and fall in love. They're all excellent.:smile1:

Jellyv, thank you for your advice.

Yes, he is looking at the ceramic bezels.

We were lucky enough to view the new Explorer II in both the white and the black dial, the black being our favourite. We at first favoured the Explorer as it is a new model, but I can't say I love it.

However, I guess, if we were pushed I would say it was between the Sub and the GMT - but to be honest, the one we fall in love with is the one he is trying on at the time! How sad is that?!

I got my guy the gmt ii and he loves it. I think it's a little sportier looking than the sub and a little different. Everyone, including ladies seem to have the sub ! But it is definitely, like Jellyv mentioned, the iconic watch of Rolex. Personally, the new explorer has not grown on me, so I would choose between gmt or sub. You can't go wrong with either. Some think the gmt is "busier" looking than the sub, which makes it less formal, but I think it can be dressed up or down quite nicely. The green 24 hour hand gives it a little something extra, too :)

among the three, i like the GMT and DH prefers the sub. we have yet to see the new explorer II in person. DH would love to try on the explorer II (white face).

fyi - i bought DH the milgauss with black face and green sapphire crystal. it's our all time favorite for guy's rolex with black face.

Love that watch. The black face is really a charcoal/deep grey color. It's gorgeous! I also love the lightning bolt second hand; it gives it a pop of color and the green sapphire crystal is noticeable but still subtle. Too bad it doesn't have a date, otherwise I would've gotten that for my guy too!!

Personally, I favour the GMT II and I love the green hand too.

However, DH is still torn by the iconic appeal of the Sub, but is the Sub a little too 'over populated' as the SA suggested (I couldn't believe it when he said that - is he mad?!)

I am dying to get a Rolex... I have my fav Chanel Jqw chrono with diamond markers White, Chanel J12 black chrono, Cartier Santos SS, & several Tag Heuer watches (I cannot bring myself to wear anymore due 2 them just not being substantial enough anymore) & a Louis Vuitton Vernis watch... I'm 5'2" 120lbs & love the larger look watch.... I've recently took over/stole (lol) my Husband's Presidential 18kt vintage watch..

Here are the 2 I'm lusting over....
