Which Gucci bags are classic and which are trendy?

I would not necessarily agree that the Jackie is the only Gucci classic (the bamboo handle dates from the 30s) but Gucci has always been about offering lots of bags and variations on a theme every season. People accuse Michele of that, but it is with keeping with the house DNA in my opinion.
Because of that many bags go out of fashion soon but also, many remain relevant even if not produced in the exact specifications, or are easy to bring back after some time. They have not been out there being sold hard long enough for people to become sick of them.

In my personal opinion the Marmont GG logo has been so milked, belt and all, that it is already looking outdated. To me it does not stand a comparison with more classic Gucci logos, like all the horse bit based. By contrast, I find the clasp in the Dionysus to be timeless. Perhaps the bigger sizes will be less and less relevant (as big heavy chains loose popularity, which is already happening when paired with hardcase handbags). But the smaller sizes and WOCs, the velvets and the jeweled versions, will always make a good evening bag in my view.

I agree that many of the bamboo handle bags look very classic. The Soho Disco is starting to be iconic bag.

In my opinion the Marmont has a classic look but because it has been extremely popular for a while it may have had its peak already. This happens with all the It -bags. Fashionistas have moved towards the next big thing. I believe the Marmont will still be popular for a while because Gucci keeps launching updated versions of it.

Agree about the Marmont being dated. I was planning on purchasing one and now I’m not sure if it’s worth it.

I see people going back and forth about whether the marmont or dionysus will end up being classic or if they will be discontinued in future years
I think the Marmont Line with the zig zag stitching, gold chains and big GG logo may look very dated in the future. The Dionysus bag is more understated but still has the classic Gucci tiger head clasp. However it’s impossible to predict future trends and what might be relevant. Get something that is truly your style and your taste and enjoy. :)

The marmont is a lovely bag. I agree with previous posters, that the heart stitching and the zig zag pattern probably won't lend itself to being a "classic", but it's undeniable that a nice shoulder bag that goes from day to night is always going to be popular/wanted, so I guess it is a classic in that sense. I think it's safe to say the Soho Disco is, or will be, a classic. It's been around long enough with enough sustained popularity (might be biased, I love my red disco!) I agree that Gucci can be very "trendy" (not a bad thing!) but I don't think that LV is immune from this also - take the multi pochette scam bag for example. Nice bag, but very much hyped by influencers, the speedy it is not. I think the dionysus is also a fairly safe bet in the running of being a classic, it's certainly iconic. Largely Gucci's canvas will withstand the test of time and similar designs will keep coming back around.

My personal opinion is that Gucci does not make classic, or at least recognizably classic bags. LV Neverfull and Chanel classics have survived the test of time, no Gucci bag has been popular for as long.
As an owner of the marmont line, I believe it has already started to look outdated. The soho disco, to me, has looked outdated for a couple of years. The dyonisus is in its hype moment right now, but I also believe that in 3-7 years it will also be outdated.
I'd also say buy what you love. I still love my marmont and plan to wear it for a few extra years, at least :)

I have the Gucci Soho Disco bag and agree that it is not a show stopper by any means, but it is a comfortable camera bag. Easy to grab and comfortable.
