Where to sell?

Thanks everyone! To clarify, I am doing a direct buy. I am worried that they will lower the payout amount after receiving the item because they somehow feel that it is worth less after they see it. (That has happened to me before with other places and other items, and I didn't really have much recourse. The Terms and Conditions allow them to do so, and having the item returned to me would incur a fee, not to mention additional hassle.) I am not doing a consignment. I am not worried about them putting the item on sale. Would be helpful if you can speak to whether FP or Rebag or both is notorious for doing what I described! I don't think this behavior would vary brand to brand and don't want to start a new thread. So far, from research, it seems they are about equal all things considered, so I should just go with whoever is offering more. @Antonia @jennalovesbags @cbarrus

As I said previously, I have never had them change the quote when they received the bag, although I guess it could happen. As a side note, I did have a quote from fashionphile and waited too long to respond. They told me to resubmit it and when I did, I got a higher quote, lol. Good luck with your sale!

Haha yes it happened to me too, not because the quote expired (I keep my eyes on deadlines like a hawk) but because this is my second round of quotes for the same item, and the item seems to have appreciated in value! I got quotes from about a dozen places (for direct buy and for consignment) around a year ago and went with AFF at the time. AFF wasn't able to sell my item after an entire year, so I got it back and got a second round of quotes from a dozen or so places, some same and some different. In all cases where I got a quote from the same place both last year and this year, the amount went up.

I have had good luck selling bags in that price range on Mercari. Their fee is 10% when it sells and a 2.9% transaction fee. What I like about Mercari is they give a buyer only 4 days after the item is received to accept it for you to get paid. No returns after the 4th day. If a buyer does not rate you, Mercari will and release your funds. So far, I have never had an item returned.

Thank you!! :)

Hey y'all, I wanted to revive this thread to see where people are finding it easiest to sell these days. I have some bags that I'm ready to part with, and while I'd love to recover some funds, I'm honestly more interested in an easy experience and not coming away feeling like I was slimed or taken advantage of. ThredUp used to be my default for easy consigning/selling, but they've started charging for closet clear-outs and done away with a lot of the perks that attracted me in the first place. Are they still decent to work with? What about TRR? Or am I better off attempting to DIY the sale on Posh, ebay, or Mercari? The bags are all in good shape but they're not likely to command a high price, and I'm a very lazy person. For anyone here who has recently attempted a substantial closet cleanout, what would you recommend?

I've had some success with Poshmark....one bag sold in the first couple of hours I listed it - a MAB

Probably best to try to sell them yourself on eBay, Poshmark, or Mercari. If you send them to the tRR, they take a pretty big cut. Think it’s like 80/20. Even if you take a loss on one of the other sites, you might still come out better than sending to tRR. That’s assuming they even accept it to sell. I bought a bag from them about 6 months ago. When I sent it back to them to resell, they rejected it and sent it back to me, even though I had not used it in those 6 months. I emailed them and explained the situation, but it didn’t do any good.

Good place to buy but not so good when it comes to selling.

I wouldn't do TRR. In addition to what you said, they set the price and you don't have any say-so, right? I personally know of a member her who sent them a perfectly good bag with no noticeable flaws which they rejected. so that's a not for me.

Thank you all VERY much for your feedback! I'm thinking I'll try my local(ish) Closet Mentor, then either Posh or ebay for whatever they decline. Shipping on Posh seems easier; Mercari seems pretty quiet?

I poked around very slightly on TRR's "sell with us" page and got a bunch of calls and texts from them, so I did like any good introverted millennial and blocked them. I've only had good experiences buying from them, but that was a little too intense for me!
