Where to buy preloved bags

Unless you really know what you're doing I'd be careful with The Real Real. Their pics aren't good, their descriptions are lacking, they don't list all issues. You can get some great deals but you can also end up with bags that are less than you expected. Fashionphile, Rebag, Yoogi's, Real Deal Collections, Anne's Fabulous Finds are all good sites.

The Real Real reseller doesn't tell you if a bag has an odor. I bought a pre-loved Dior that was in excellent shape, and I have consigned with them with good results. However, if you get a bag, you don't like you can send it back to them to consign. I don't think they will take the bag back as a return, so you would lose money most likely. I actually have bought jewelry from them, and I have been satisfied. If they would be more honest about odors I would buy some of their high-end bags. I won't buy a Birkin or a Kelly from a reseller that doesn't take returns.

I’ve returned two or three “non returnable” bags to TRR due to undisclosed damage etc. If you have a legitimate reason it’s worth calling.

I've only bought from The Real Real and Fashionphile of the consignment sites listed. TRR has a larger inventory, but a worse reputation and a no return policy. I've found some great things there, but I always get things I buy from them authenticated elsewhere. The pictures and descriptions are dreadful. Fashionphile is fantastic because they permit returns for any reason.

And I'll be the lone voice that recommends eBay. Lots of people (like me) sell bags there that are fantastic but were simply not right for the person, and there are great deals to be had. I've sold some great things there, and I never consider selling through TRR or Fashionphile because the commissions are high, my photos and descriptions are better, and I've earned an excellent reputation as an eBay seller over many years. I would not buy from someone that has no or little positive feedback, but many sellers have loads of positive feedback and, if you want to be extra-cautious, stick to sellers that have excellent feedback on luxury handbags. You will often find better prices there because the seller only has to pay about 10% in commission to eBay and PayPal, vs. much higher rates at any of the consignment shops. You can always get a bag authenticated elsewhere, and eBay was fantastic the one and only time I received a fake. It can be more work and hassle than some shops, but no more (and maybe less) than TRR.

That is great information to know. I have had good luck with Real Real except for one LV bag that stunk with mothballs, and the quality was worse than expected. I have bought many other items, especially jewelry, and felt I got a great deal.

If, and only if, you know the seller and can communicate with them, would I recommend eBay!
I’ve gotten to know several and have had great deals with them.
If they indicate in their listing that they are members of TPF, you can pretty much believe that they are legit.
I always check their description to see if they are members and reach out to them for more information.
A good way to handle any questions on eBay!
