It´s a difficult question, and there is no right or wrong....I also hope we have different opinions that the "fashion capitals" but for me personally I would boil it down to Paris, New York and Tokyo. For the regular street style. Not the brand stores or seen at fashion week.
I am a sucker for city fashion though. In Paris it was the coolness and feminine but "chilled/relaxed", In New York it was how put together and chic in a "classic meets trends" way women were (I remember focusing more on them than the art at the MOMA)....I was very young though and it made me dream for years to come....
Then Tokyo, when I thought I couldn´t be impressed anymore age 40+, how universally neat and put together people were. The play with neutral colors and shapes, the perfect fit (never too revealing), the minimalism. It completely influenced my style.

Paris, used to be more New York when I was younger.
A focus on classics that fit well and have a chic twist. When I was younger, I would incorporate some edgy punk/rock n’ roll style elements, but not anymore. I am 50, and while I still think and feel the same asI always have, I love the dichotomy of looking pulled together and conventional while being a rebel inside. They never see it coming!

Nice question.

When I was young, in my mind, there were only two places in the world where I imagine it was worth living in, and those were London and Madrid. It was all about the New Romantics and the Spanish Movida for me. The androgynia, the lacy ruffled shirts, the post punk jewlery, the smoky eye, the crazy and the poise. New York was just about okay because, you know, Velvet Underground. But LA was my idea of hell (people actually got tanned and exercised there). And I took pride on not being a francophone, so uncool, the French, with their berets and fashion shows noone cared about, anglophilia was the only way to go.

And I did get to live in London, and loved it, although by then the New Romantics were old, the streets were bursting with the homeless in the wake of Tatcher’s demise and it was all about rave parties and the dance scene.

Today I still love Madrid and spend more and more time there (Covid aside) but I am much more influenced by French style, which is really full circle as I got clothed in France as a child, and funny, because I have always been thought French when abroad, which I use to abhor of. In the meantime, Britain has left Europe and I much more into French culture and fashion and cooking and reading and everything. My favorite city in the world? LA. I could move there tomorrow. So gorgeous, so cool, I love it! :P

I’m so on board...42 yo and I have quite a classic style while I’m a wild childish creative at heart if people ask me if I work in marketing I get offended as I’m a designer. I am a minimalist also so is my favorite esthetics I hope to be able to travel again and get inspired again!

So cool to read how the influence we get when young sticks with us forever eventhough our “ideal” might change as we age and desire different things.
Covid forced me to slow down and take on reading, cooking, and indoors activities like crafting. So who knows what I will emerge as once we re more free.
Aaahhh the 80s...I’m a child (teen) of the 90s and the NYC experience was when I was 21. It was the time of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy being the fashion icon. Late 90s minimalism.

New York! I love the way women from NYC mix high and low end brands, pair current trends with classics and also seem to enjoy fashion at any age. Also love how tote bags are such a NYC staple (but I suppose this could be said for any city).

There's a great series on YouTube called WHAT EVERYONE IS WEARING IN NEW YORK by KarenBritChick and she really showcases a huge range of NYC styles from all types of people.

Another fan of 90's minimalism here, when the likes of Calvin Klein, Narciso Rodriguez and Jil Sander were reigning supreme. I think deconstruction and monochrome were big trends alongside minimalism at the time. CBK was also a style icon for me. I remember trawling through her style thread on another fashion forum that was quite popular around 10-15 years ago.

Having said all that, I'm also a massive fan of the Alber Elbaz era of Lanvin. The sheer brilliance of his designs were unparalleled, in my opinion.
