i was pondering what would happen to my extensive luxury collection of bags if something should happen to me. anyone who came into my home and found them likely wouldn't even know the value and they might end up at the goodwill or ebay auctions for a penny :smile1: i was talking with a friend about this and she said they only have value to me anyway, so she would bequeath them to someone, or many someone's, but i don't even have people to leave them to. if you don't have a daughter/niece or female friends to give luxury bags to... what arrangements do you make for your designer/luxury bags??

Some ideas:
• Name the bags with their approx value to be sold on behalf of a charity (you may want to name a trustworthy seller like Ann's Fabulous Funds to keep employees or executors from stealing them at a sub market value)
• Think of women in your life who have touched you. Give each one a bag with information on its value - both financial and your emotional value
• Sell down you bag collection as you get older to fund vacations to see the world (or other items on your bucket list)

In any case you need a will and estate planning. Some people feel that if they don't have heirs, you don't need estate planning. But everyone does - for issues such as power of attorney, living will, etc Ask you lawyer for his suggestions.

i'm in my 30s, but i still ponder this a lot. thank you so much, great suggestions. i really appreciate it. perhaps i can do a mix of all 3.

At the very least, keep an inventory for insurance purposes and keep it with your will. That way, whoever does wind up handling your estate is aware of the value.

I'm hoping for a viking funeral--
Load bags onto a wooden boat with my corpse, then cast adrift on water--
As friends/family watch the whole deal burn against a starry sky.

Honestly, whatever happens to bags when I die, happens.
Not a big concern.
Especially as collection may change between now & then.
Or a tsunami/earthquake/typhoon may pop by to say hello.

So true too. I told one friend my concern isn't my will; it's my living will. That one I may have to deal with the fall out. My will? Have fun probate courts!

I have daughters and sons with wives. They know my bags were expensive purchases and I would love them to take one or more that they like. However, they do know that my best friend has a very good idea of their value and would know how to sell them for the best return. They know not to do anything like that without involving her.
