I'm looking for some advice about Coach returns. I went to a local FP store this week to return two snoopy duffles I wasn't happy with. The manager gave me a real attitude and asked me why I didn't send them back using UPS. She said returns count against whatever store you return them to.

I felt really bad but also irritated that she tried to make me feel bad ( which worked, I did feel terrible). Especially since the store was empty and they probably weren't having a lot of sales that day. But no, I've never even been in that store before, let alone returned anything so it's not like I do it all the time.

Do most of you just pay for shipping and send your returns back thru UPS?

That's interesting because I've had to return an online purchase and when I called, they asked that I return to a local store. I'm sure that didn't make her happy but she didn't need to take it out on you.

I returned my unloved Snoopy item to the store, got told it was a limited edition and I would be sorry for returning them and they are all sold out.

I told the SA, then it should be easy to sell and it will make someone happy to get it.

That was bad customer service. I used to sell men's suits and worked on commission. Even when it irritated me that a customer, who I might even have spent alot of time with, brought something back, I didn't bring it up to them. That's just tacky.

I have returned online FP items to the boutique store without any issues and FOS items to the outlet without problems. I've even returned women's items to the men's outlet and men's items to the women's outlet without any comments or issues.

Sometimes I just want to do a quick return and there is a long line in front of the women's store, so I go to the men's store. Or sometimes I want to put my men's item towards a new purchase at the women's store, so I return wherever it is convenient for me.

A few times I have taken back outlet or FOS purchases to the boutique store for merchandise credit because I knew that I wanted to make a purchase at the boutique. I have never had any problems returning anyplace.

When I order off the FOS I make sure NOT to use PayPal for my purchases because then I would have to send them back by UPS for credit. Using a credit card allows the SAs at any Coach outlet to refund the money to my card. If I use something like an American Express Gift Card, then I make sure to hang onto it for awhile, so they can easily put it back the money back on that card.

One time when I was returning some Men's FOS purchases at the women's outlet, a male SA told me that they send all the FOS returns to Jacksonville for redistribution. He wasn't complaining, just commenting in passing. He had his eye one my returns for himself and I am pretty sure that it never went back to Jacksonville!

I thought that was a rather foolish process. As long as the items were already at the outlet why not try and sell them there instead of all the work and expense of shipping them back to JAX?!

Anyway, I think that the SA that gave grief to the OP was totally out of line and should not have complained about taking a return on an online purchase.

Almost a year ago the manager of my local fp boutique straight out denied my FOS madison phoebe from being returned. It was in perfect condition with tags (I just didn't like the color). My favorite SA told her she wasn't allowed to deny it but she did anyway. The manager said something about the store not being able to afford the return since they would have to pay to send it back to JAX. My fp boutique is always a ghost town, I'm really surprised it is still open.

Since I live close enough to both FP and outlet stores, I would never pay to return items. Usually I end up returning to the outlet since I shop there more. I take FP items that I order on-line back to the FP store that's closer to my home than the outlet.

I do whatever is best for me. It's not my fault that Coach has a policy that costs them money to deal with returns........and it's not my problem that their policy is to count returns against the store that takes the return. As a consumer spending my hard earned money, I'm gonna do what's best for me. As far as the manager giving the OP attitude, that was totally wrong. I'm typically sweet as a Georgia Peach but if you give me attitude, you're gonna get attitude right back cuz ain't nobody got time for that! :smile1:

Yeah, you are right, I guess I shouldn't feel bad, it IS my hard earned money after all. I wish Coach would start doing free returns. That would solve the problem!

That person you dealt with should not be making you feel bad for returning locally. It is an option Coach provides, and she needs to deal with it sometimes. Is that store not so active? Because I am wondering if their numbers are bad, so it will just add to their daily sales issues. But that is not your problem.

Coach now does offer free returns by mail, I am guessing they changed it to this to help the local stores' numbers not look bad from online returns.

That's just rude service. If that policy is so damaging to local stores then Coach needs to re-think that. As others have pointed out, it's not your fault, nor your problem and shame on that manager for being snotty. I doubt she stopped to think that by making you feel bad, it's not likely to make you want to rush into the store again anytime soon. Maybe that's why their store was empty - she's a crab.

My SA knows I'll be bringing things back and welcomes me doing so. Sometimes you just can't tell until you see the bag in person and it's not like these Snoopy things were in a lot of stores.
