Where bags go to die...when and how do you "retire" your bags?

Since, I originally started the thread I have sold one of the bag and intend to list the other for sale. The first garnered me almost $200 which was nice since it was all but worthless to me. That was a nice start to a cute SLG.

I'm going to list the second asap (I just got busy). If I get $100 ish on it, that's not much but, it helps when I calculate my total cost of owning the item. (which I find more helpful than cost per wear or CPW)

That being said, I'm enjoying hearing what everyone does with bags they don't want.

But I'm still curious. What factors make everyone decide that it's time to offload a bag?

Not the condition. I have never had a bag in that kind of rough shape. Otherwise not wanting to carry it.

My mom gets my bags. But the ones she gets are usually near new, since I always use my backpacks. I wonder why I even buy bags.

Do you have different sized backpacks for different purposes or do you have a favorite one that does it all?

I have a couple of backpacks but I tend to carry just one. This is for uni though so I need a laptop and I'm always just there that's why I don't get to use my other bags.

I sell what I can to keep my bag budget going.
If a bag is so over the hill I can't sell it or donate it to a friend or goodwill, I ask a crafty friend if they have a use for the parts, such as zippers, buckles, leather etc. Usually the bag gets recycled into something.
