What's your unpopular jewelry opinion?

I have to agree with this strategy. At a certain age, jewelry needs to have some humph.
However, it is hard to stick with the same pieces, I get bored.

Great point! And as our needs and tastes change, we shouldn’t see our previous purchases that we loved in the past but that no longer work for us as a waste or a mistake.

UO: it’s OK to change your wedding set. The jewelry is a symbol of your relationship whether you had it on your wedding day or not. (OK, maybe this isn’t an unpopular opinion on a jewelry forum, but it is unpopular with my husband  )

The only plus about getting old is that my fingers went from a size 5 to a 6.5. I told my husband, do you want me to go ringless???
(it never occurred to him that it could get resized..)

UO: I love to buy different RTW, but I’m kind of wedded to the same big jewelry for daily or dressy occasions. I’m medium boned though short, and dainty jewelry or stacking jewelry doesn’t feel right on me.

I just realized that I take a lot of style cues from my grandmother. My GM had a lot of jewelry, but later in life (by the time I knew her), she basicslly wore the same large things for both daily and dressy. So much so, that if you knew her, you couldn’t really picture her without them on. She had the same things in both white and yg. And alternated depending. Though she favored wg for evening

I also find I'm drawn to pieces with more presence now, versus more dainty jewelry, although I still have and wear both. It sounds like your grandmother had a wonderful style with signature pieces. I love that. I tend to feel overwhelmed when I have too much. I'd really rather have fewer, more interesting/unique pieces that have personal meaning to me, than to have many pieces. I do love variety, though, but I'm content with a smallish collection of pieces to rotate through.

This is my unpopular opinion. I guess it depends on the costume jewelry. I have costume pieces from the 1960s that I don't have to do anything too.
I noticed lots of people wearing costume jewelry. Maybe because they dont wear them often because mix and match, it could last for years. Ive always seen chanel costume jewelry being sold, some even looked antique.

I went through a phase when I was only collecting fine jewellery and got rid of all my costume/silver pieces. Now I have a mini collection of costume/silver pieces (i.e., rings and necklaces) alongside my fine jewellery. They are suitable for occasions when you don't want to be flashy or if you're travelling and are not too worried about theft.

Seeing as my only earrings and bracelets are pretty much the ones I have on 24/7, I'm having fun with rotating different necklaces and rings. I still can't fathom the idea of wearing more than one necklace at a time, but will be happy to try different ring combos.

I am so tired of seeing the same jewelry on this site over and over and over again. When I joined many years ago, I had a naive expectation that posts would show all kinds of beautiful, unusual jewelry. Nope. 99% is the same old, same old. IMO it is a massive waste of money to buy such common things.
As an owner of some of the repetitive jewelry, I have to agree with you. Some of us, seem to buy the same jewelry — or same high end designer brands (some/most people posting on jewelry and H being a select group of people that like designer jewelry (and H bags)

I have made lots of jewelry mistakes (too many) but I don’t regret my Cartier bangles, or my H jewelry. ❤️

Come look at the thread 'what else do you wear' under the vca section; some more non typical jewelry there.
I am one of those that has vca pieces, though I try to choose less "popular " ones, but I also have lots of pieces from small local stores as well as a number of Graff pieces.

I think a lot of people also don't show their unusual jewelry because they don't want to be identified and / or robbed. It can happen even if you scrub your metadata from photos.

Also, I generally agree with your opinion on the same old, same old, but I think part of the reason why people gravitate to that sort of jewelry is that they think these are classics and therefore easy to match anything that they're wearing.

Personally, I disagree again (like how a chanel flap doesn't automatically elevate an outfit, no matter how many fashion blogs try to claim so), but wtv, it's the opinion of the buyers that count.

It took me a while to get here but after much thought I’ve decided I’m not a fan of the bulgari serpenti design for jewelry. It’s ok stacked alone but with other jewelry because it’s not symmetrical it never looks quite right. The price point is also crazy now given the number of increases. It’s bulgari not cartier or vca. If I’m recalling correctly this has gone up nearly 10k in 3-4 years. That’s insanity.
I agree. The price increases turned me off. I no longer want the serpenti.
