What's your dream bag?

I guess my dream leather bag would be made, by hand, just for me, of that buttery Moroccan leather, the softest in the world, made the same way for thousands of years, as smooth and drapey as silk, traditional nomad saddlebag style with a little bas relief curlicue on the front, or it would be perfect for a slouchy modern but on its way to classic semi-crescent hobo!

Um, does it have to be just one? Because my dream would be at least those two styles, and I need a lot of colors...

For my dream fabric bag, we start with silk. Not the kind that's used to make ready to wear that you see hanging on store racks, but real silk. Thai, maybe, although China has been known to produce some silk now and then ;) So since its my dream, I'll have several bags, made of both.

And then send them off to be embroidered. By human hands, artist hands, I'm not even going to start rolling off names of stitches and styles. You know who you are, you know where you are. History in every stitch...I smile a secret smile, I am a lucky woman, some of my dream bags are in my closet!

Oh, and just to clarify, I'm not talking about those crude jackleg tourist-targeted "getcher handmade Moroccan bags here, folks, and hurry, because the bus tour continues in 15 minutes" stuff that pops up on eBay and elsewhere from time to time.

Those are the handmade equivalent of "fakes." I'm talking about the REAL Moroccan bags, made by the hands of a handful of ancient artists on the shortlist of the most doddering royal retainers, who also smile a secret smile, a soundless smirk, yes, their ladies rock better bags than the Queen, for whom the malls close, that she might revel in her mass-produced logo lousy concoctions of famous houses and famous names bought by conglomerates, bow smugly to the Queen, Her Majesty has bought some new bags, and home to look over their own daughter's new purse, even a 20 year old needs a magnifying glass to tell its tiny, perfect, even stitches are hand-sewn, and a thirty year old needs one to tell that there are stitches, hand-sewn by an artist with hands and a needle and a Gift...
