I love the look of Balenciagas but for the money you spend...too many issues with fading, stitching, ect. Not everyone has those problems but I wouldn't want to chance it. If you want to though, the Work and the Day are good sizes.

I have an Hermes birkin, chanel flaps and bottega veneta hobos. But i love my black Kipling Leah tote. Light, contrast lining, external pockets for water bottle, ample size for papers lunch and extra shoes, comfortable on the shoulder.

I am always searching for my next work bag since work dominates my life. Its so important to me that is is sturdy and comfortable, yet professional. My current work bag is lv totally in de. It is light, durable, comfy, zips and has hand side pockets for water, phone, umbrella, etc. I considered the prada double zip, but i heard was and still is built terribly. Instead, i puchased a fendi 2jours. Its beautiful but so heavy, so i wind up using the lv because i dont need my purse to double as a weapon. It is almost summer and i usually switch to a lv nf mono. I sent her in for repair recently. O find my bals are too delicate. Ive destroyed many a tassle. Im not a fan of the purse that only allows holding a purse in the hand or bend of arm. Mulburry bayswater was a wash and also heavy. Alexa is too delicate. My gst is not only heavy but the chains are super annoying- def not for a nyc daily commute. I was thinking of a goyard but im hesitant with the material. I guess im too rough. ;)

Of the three you listed, I would go with the Goyard. I like the Balenciaga, but there are durability issues.

You might also look at Valextra: there's the Madison, Borsa lavoro fontana or the Babila. All are very classic, lined in leather, and durable.

Smythson is another option. There's the 1887, Panama, and Grosvenor totes as well as the Chameleon Business.

I have the Neverfull GM in DE and a Bal Work. I am a Bal girl through and through, so will always pick a Bal above all else.
They're also a lot tougher than they look, and they're meant to age well. I don't baby mine, but I don't throw 'em around either.

But, if you want something that's very easy to clean, and completely worry free, than the LV canvas really can't be beat. I've abused my Neverfull and it still looks good.

I also use a Goyard St Louis PM for work & really love it! Lightweight but tough, I carry my laptop frequently inside.

The Marquises would be perfect if you need a zip top

Wow!! tPFers really came through. You've all recommended some really GREAT bags! Thank you!! I'll have to stop by and see them in person and figure out what they can do.

It may be that I end up with one bag for the clinic environment and another for travel.

Check out a line called Want Les Essentials. Available at Barney's and the brand's own website. Designed for exactly the criteria you described up front. Their leather is snuggle-worthy, and the bags are well-thought out with edgy, purposeful, understated surprise details.

On my "...to acquire" list! .
