I ordered a pair of diamond studs from whiteflash a month ago. They are gorgeous but one of the posts has a discoloration on it. I contacted CS and showed them the pic below. She had a jeweler look at it and it was determined that the integrity of the platinum should not be compromised nor should it affect my sensitive ears. She offered to have it fixed for me at their expense. Now I want to send them back cuz I paid the extra $ for platinum. but what I'm worried about is, could/would they switch the stones on me? She said they would not need the certificates sent.
Am I being overly anal? TIA!

I don't have an experience with them. If you are afraid they will switch the stones go to a local jeweler to look at it, it could be some residue from the pliers they use at the workshop to work on the studs, meaning it can get cleaned. Have you tried to clean it your self?

While I think their workmanship is horrendous from my experiences with them, I don't think they'd switch your stones. They'd likely either plate over it or replace the post (that entire length most likely).

Was that discoloration there when you got them or did it develop with wear?

lily25, I've only disinfected them with alcohol. What should I try?

ame, honestly I didn't notice right away (cuz I was focusing on the sparkle), only upon closer examination. It was there when I got them for certain and not easily visible in their preview pics but I looked at them again and I saw it.

Truthfully? I would leave it alone. That is the part of the post that is inside your ear - it doesn't show.

If it really bothers you that much, send them back and have it fixed. Of course, the only way you could be 100% sure that they wouldn't switch the stones is to watch them be reset - and you can't do that.

So, the answer to your question is Yes - you are being over anal! :graucho:

Have them issue a statement to you in writing stipulating clearly NOT to touch the stones BEFORE sending them in.

I personally would have them repaired. Platinum shouldn't look like that.

I thought about it again, this is not a useless post at all. My white gold ring was platinum plated and now has a discoloration exactly like that at the places where the platinum has started to fade. Are you sure it is platinum and not platinum plated?

I use Silvo liquid solution from the super market for gold and silver that cleans them well. Just a tiny drop on a Qtip and rub it well, let it dry and then rub it again with a dry soft cloth, and dirt will go away, I promise you it will not make things worse.

^ yes it is, I use it often. Dead cells are deposited on the metal and it starts to make the metal dull and darker, if you clean it with silvo then it looks like new. And it doesn't hurt the gems. If the diamond gets dirty with silvo, no problemo! just wash it with water and it will come off, it will not be damaged.

Thanks ladies. I just feel that since I paid the extra $ for platinum, it shouldn't look like this KWIM?

bisbee, I agree sometimes I am over anal.. Being married to a man with OCD doesn't help either. I think some of his OCD rubs off on me. :p

lily25, thanks for the advice. I will try a silver cleaning cloth first as I don't have any Silvo at home ATM. Where do they sell that?
Also wanted to note that there is engraving on the post that says "PLAT" so I don't think it's platinum plated...it better not be!
