Great tip, thank you! And it was ok on the leather interior of the bag?
My boy isn't leather on the interior, I don't know what it is. Some sort of fabric. Sorry I'm new to Chanel.
Congrats! I'm so excited for you. Sometimes "our" bag comes home. And it's seems like yours has.A wee bit of an update! I just returned from out of town, and . . . you guys, I think I'm going to keep this baby.
The whole time I was on vacation, I kept the bag stuffed with Lush bath bombs (plus an open box of baking soda). It was a risk, because I definitely ADDED some scent to the bag that may make the seller less inclined to accept a return . . . but thank goodness, it seems to have worked??? The odor, I'd say, is 98% neutralized . . . which is enough for me to be more than happy using her. Not to mention that I'm so happy with her condition, and so DON'T feel like hunting for, and taking another chance on, a replacement! Now the bag smells like bath bombs . . . which is kind of awesome, LOL. If I stick my face all the way inside, I can still pick up a little staleness, but honestly, I don't know if I'd notice it if I just opened the bag today.
THANK YOU all for chiming in and offering suggestions and support!![]()

Just to mention, the bag will likely continue to air out. I noticed that the bag I had with a smell got 90% there pretty quickly and then. The rest of it eventually dissipated to zero over a relatively short time.
Enjoy!
You guys aren't going to believe what happened.
As I mentioned, my bag was 98% odor free, and I have been enjoying using her, but I have continued to wipe down the interior and air her out from time to time, just for good measure.
So the other day, I had the bag propped by an open window with a fan blowing across it - my usual set-up - and I forgot all about it. Cue a huge Florida rainstorm. I mean a real downpour. I didn't realize for . . . a while. When I remembered . . . yeah. The bag was totally wet.
Strangely, I didn't panic; I just dried her off with a towel and then set her back up by the fan to continue drying.
Would you believe that the rain COMPLETELY got rid of all the remaining odor??? I daresay . . . it just smells like LEATHER now. Gorgeous, lovely, OBVIOUSLY DURABLE AND WATERPROOF, OMG, caviar leather.
Just thought you all would get a kick out of the fact that my bag got a literal BATH. I never in a million years would have done this on purpose, but the bag is completely undamaged, and now smells fine, so . . . a blessing in disguise?
Please do not try this at home. LMAO.![]()
