I'm not quite sure how this happened...
But it started about three weeks ago, haha. Before then I typically bought $40 bags from JustFab, which I thought were beautiful and well-made for the price point. I haven't had one break on me and none of them ever looked ratty. I was content, really. My most expensive bags at that point were a Furla I received from my father as present and a DKNY bag that my paternal grandmother passed on to my mother, who then passed it on to me (it's really heavy leather with big buckles - feel top notch, though the leather could use some conditioning).

My mom has been nagging me for years about buying more high quality purses that will "last decades" instead of cheap ones. I didn't really understand her point because I've had some cheap bags for a few years that did not break and still served their purpose, still looked good, and I did not have to baby.

Then I looked up Givenchy, Alexander Wang, and 3.1 Phillip Lim a few weeks ago, and something just... clicked. I was down the rabbit hole.

I've accumulated what I know might sound like an outrageous number of bags in a short time period, but frankly, this is how I always am when I want something. Make-up, shoes, clothing - when I buy, I buy in bulk. Of course I do plenty of research and make the appropriate considerations, waiting a few days before making a purchase. But honestly, I know the difference between 'my heart would ache if I let this one pass and it became unavailable' vs. 'this would be nice to have but I won't miss it if I don't get it'.

The biggest step for me was going from buying H&M bags for 20-40 euros to buying Michael Kors for 300+. At that point I wasn't financially secure at all and taking the plunge to putting hundreds of euros out of my paycheck was scary and I felt so bad after every purchase. Then I started seeing the Kors bags absolutely everywhere and they didn't feel special anymore. I ended up selling them. Then I understood that buying a designer bag should come after some months of saving, not using your entire paycheck at once. And while taking time and saving money, you will have time to do research on the bag and be sure this bag is for you.

After this Kors fiasco and getting some sense to my spending, shedding 1000+ euros doesn't trouble me anymore. I put the same amounts to my savings account as I do to new purchases so it's all good.

Me too. When I get into something I always eventually end up with 20 of it... !!!

I was totally a Ross/TJ Maxx handbag person at first. Then I became interested in contemporary designers; I think they are gateway drugs. I started off with a dooney and coach spending $150+ which was new for me. Then I got to LV and said I would not spend over 1k, which didn't last very long. Now my max for one bag is around $1600. I think it just happens slowly over time, the sticker shock wears off and suddenly anything under 1k seems like a great deal.

Yep, this is me exactly, except that I hate to admit my ceiling went a little above that with my Artsy purchase this past Fall.

I started with Dooney & Bourke
To Coach
To Michael Kors
To Tory Burch (lots of it)
And now I'm 26....... And ladies I just made my first Louis Vuitton purchase
I purchased the Eva clutch but I'm going to exchange for the Speedy 30 instead.
I promise this is the last bag I'm purchasing since they are supposed to last forever

My first "designer" bag was a coach all leather bag from Ross (equivalent of TKMaxx in UK) for $50usd at clearance price 10+years ago. It was a bargain then. Slowly worked my way to first a LV wallet, then quite a few LV bags, Gucci bags, Bottega Veneta, etc and of course then Chanel. Eventually Chanel is not even doing it, and now Hermes which I thought I would never need/want. I still remember how I said to my best friend 10+ years ago that i did not understand how someone could spend $500 on a LV bag or any bag. Look where I am now. 😭 It is bad, it is really like drug. Absolutely addictive and once you start, you will only want stronger dose as time goes 😭

I started with Longchamp and Mulberry and a couple of DKNY canvas bags for summer. After that a lot of LVs, some Chanels and 2 really nice Salvatore Ferragamo bags. In recent years a few A. Wangs, Céline and Hermès. Now I focus on H. I would have ventured into H earlier if there was a store in my country. That would have saved me a lot of money...Women need to carry a bag every day and for me it's an important accessory. I have downsized my collection but need options according to season, occasion and outfit. Very happy with my current collection but need a few more H bags.

Oof, I hit the ground running. I'm in my 20s.

One of my close relatives works at Coach... Not a SA but actually relatively high up in the chain. I get easy access to inventory at a steep discount (regular employee discount, which is pretty good). I have a lot of random bags from sample sales and a vintage bag from my mother that I love.

That being said, my taste in fashion is minimal and I prefer simple form with great function. My wallet is fortunate in that I don't like flashy bags or branding everywhere. I don't have a upper price limit if I want it enough, but I'm doubting I will break the 1k limit anytime soon.

My first bag I actually purchased for myself was a Burberry packable nylon tote in a gorgeous eggplant color for about $250. Longchamp was just starting to become popular and I thought it was a Le Pliage at first (not knowing what a Le Pliage actually really looked like lol). It served me well through my college years until I noticed a lot of people carrying Burberrys.

I then splurged on a coral Coach New Willis ($350?). What I really liked was how NO ONE knew it was Coach... They were in the peak of slapping branding on everything then. Graduated and got a great job, and Nordstrom sucked me in with their Anniversary Sale and the exclusive expandable Le Pliage. I love it for travelling without worrying if it gets dirty, etc. Will definitely pick up another one this year if available.

Purchased a coral Coach swingpack earlier this year. Wanted something to run chores with without needing to lug a huge purse around. Then came fate...

I follow a lot of beauty bloggers and one mentioned the Mansur Gavriel bucket bag last week. MG fits me exactly - the form is simple, well made, useful, and pleasant to look at without obvious branding. My saffiano black/flamma bucket arrived yesterday ($700) and I just ordered a black/oto large tote today during the restock ($605).

Clearly, I'm hooked. Probably won't purchase any bags for awhile other than the annual Le Pliage.

My mother died when I was really young. She was always well groomed, well dressed and had smart accessories. I re-visited some of the stuff I inherited from her, and found this quite quality bag. That was the origin of my collection. Started to add bags slowly after that, and didn't feel bad about spending more. :)

My road to paying thousands for a handbag started in my early 20s. I think I had been paying a bit for clothing, nobody seemed to understand but a lot of the clothing I still have. Then it kind of made sense to pay for good quality shoes and handbags. I think my first designer hand bag was after we moved to London, and I purchased a Marc by Marc Jacobs at the airport duty free! Just the other day I gave it away. It was a great bag but I was never crazy about the colour! Then websites like Net-a-Porter and the Outnet, and second hand options became readily available and paying $500-$1000 didn't seem like such a big deal. I bought a Chloe on sale in LA in 2013 for $1200US, and that had my been biggest purchase yet. Then I got it in a different colour a few months later for $600. And yesterday for the first time ever, I walked into a shop and bought my first Balenciaga full price. It's the mini city in Perle and it's divine. It better be at $1800AUD! Shame hubby can't know about it. So "Perle" is in lock down until I work out how she can make her first appearance ;) Happy shopping! x

I'm sorry for your loss but what a meaningful way to start your collection! :)

I started going designer in university with LV, then I moved on to Chanel a few years ago in my early 30s, now I'm slowly moving into Hermes. I'm over LV totally (Ive consigned almost my whole collection). I have a Chanel jumbo with silver hardware and a wallet on chain, both black. My Hermes Herbag (with both black and off-white options for colours) is in transit. Honestly, my purse expense progression is directly related to my income. It's gone up gradually and so has my taste/tolerance for spending more.

I would never go nuts and have a huge collection of anything, though, even if I could afford more. I'm a minimalist and am also super classic when it comes to style and colour, so I am looking to have a carefully edited collection of purses that suit my needs.

I blame fashion magazines, Vogue, Harper's Bazzar, whatever....so thank Anna Wontour & co...for my designer fix.

Started at contemporary labels and then to a vintage Prada in ostrich.
Thankfully I am now into bags that are well made but not trendy.

I already hit the 3K mark and hope I never go past that. Tho i saw a photo of an Hermes Kelly. Help
