I prefer small purses. At only 4'11" a large purse can overwhelm me. I look like a little girl carrying her mom's purse. Especially for work, that is NOT a good look.

I do have 3 medium/large tote bags for the rare occasions I need to carry a lot. Usually when traveling.

I also like that small bags can't become bottomless pits full of old receipts, a few tubes of lipstick, several pens, etc. There just isn't room... A small purse holds what I need, and only what I need.

I prefer a bag that looks small, but has tardis-like qualities and will carry a lot. I'm 5'3", so a big bag can swamp me, and also can feel uncomfortable and unwieldy to manage. I had a Marc Jacobs Fran bag, and even the handles felt too big for my hands to hold comfortably, somehow. My absolute favourite bags to carry are my Mulberry Ledbury, Fossil Sydney Satchel, Fossil Jori Satchel and my Marc Jacobs small Cecilia. They all manage to be petite, lightweight and pretty, snd yet also capable of carrying a really decent amount of stuff.

In general, I'd say I prefer small or small-to-medium sized bags. Large totes overwhelm me, and I don't have the style sense to pull off larger bags.

However, it really depends on the need. I would wear different bags for:
- going out on a dinner date
- going to a play or musical
- going window shopping or hanging out with my friends
- chilling at my friend's house for tea
- running errands
- going to work or going to meetings for work
- running out to lunch from my workplace
- a long day that combines 2-3 of the above

I find that with larger bags I also tend to carry more since I technically have the capacity to do so, and I really can't handle the weight for long periods of time. When I can, I try to pare down.

I have a friend who gets away with carrying just a card holder, but she also holds her phone in her hand, and I hate not having my hands free. Personally, I have to carry at least a clutch or mini bag to hold my wallet, car keys, and cell phone. What I usually do is I have my clutch inside a larger bag, and for instances when I need only the essentials I can grab the clutch out of whatever larger bag I'm using day-to-day or for work.

Same here:smile:....I am only 5' tall, ergo the challenge to find small enough design to balance my short and stocky self, yet roomy enough to carry my essentials (and the nintendos, beyblades, etc. the boys dumped on it).....
The best so far are my Celine micro luggage, Chanel luxe ligne shoulder bag, and Hermes Evelyne PM. They are about 25cm average, up to about 29cm. I think the common features that made them work for me are the elasticity of the leather design, and the width/depth of the bags.

I'm so tall I don't have to care about the size of the bag I carry and I do carry some seriously big bags alot of the time, but I think my Alexa is a nice size. It's big enough to take in my daily essentials but it's small enough to be an easy carry. It's one of my favorites for free time outings and if I could, I'd carry it to work every day as well.

Usually I do take a larger tote to work because I bring breakfast, lunch and snacks to work every day and I like to put the cooler in my handbag so I have less items to carry (and to forget on the bus) plus I can fit my shopping in the same bag.

For random outings, the smaller the better as long as I can fit my keys and wallet. (Mini bag, belt bag, clutch).

For work a medium size bag is preferable because I usually carry extra items such as gloves and an umbrella.

I don’t really use large bags because I tend to overfill them and then the weight bothers me.

I carry mini to small bags. As long as it fits my phone, I’m good. I stopped carrying large bags the older that my kids got. I’m almost an empty nester so I no longer need a large bag except for work.

I’m in the process of getting rid of my larger bags. I never liked them in the first place. I carried them out of necessity.
