What Should I Get For My First Designer Bag?

I'd say to check out the Saint Laurent SDJ, Gucci Bamboo Tote, or Givenchy Antigona.

I'd really suggest going to a few stores, seeing bags in person, trying them on, and seeing what stands out to you. It's a big purchase and it really ought to be something you love, not just something to buy just for the sake of buying a designer bag.

Important in many threads around here: buy for the life you *have* rather than the life you wish you had or want to have. Someone said here- you're young, buy what you will use in the next five years. She's right - your tastes and needs will change, and heaven knows BAGS will change. If you buy for your life instead of for a lifetime, you'll do fine.

Spend some time reading in TPF about the purchases people regret: you will learn a little and laugh a lot.

Take your time and have fun shopping.

If messenger type: Mulberry Alexa, PS1

P/S: U don't like Balenciaga...how about Chloe Paraty? [emoji16]

You mentioned you like Celine luggage, so maybe that can be your first bag :) if you want something with strap, how about PS1, Valentino rockstuds tote, Goyard St Louis, Chloe Marcie, Fendi Peekaboo/2 jours?

I like Chanel but I've bypassed them a couple of times now. I bought a Fendi Selleria peekaboo but I love the regular peekaboos and the 3jours are fun too. I love the peekaboo for the two sides. I'm a big fan of Fendi and will probably buy from the again. I've heard that Fendi has really good after care as well. Plus I have always had good experiences in their stores.

I like Mulberry's too but the style doesn't seem quite right for me personally. I live in the UK so it seems like everyone has one. They seem quite durable and seem to made for everyday wear.

I like Celine and have a edge bag but have been tempted by the Mini before-it's just too big for me. The Micro might be a good option for you. I've had good after care with Celine.

I like Chloe too because their bags are really feminine but I probably won't buy them again. I have a Marcie Medium.

I think your best bet is going somewhere where you can walk into the stores and experience the bag for yourself. It's very different once you try something on.

for your first bag i'd say go for balenciaga in black. but antigona and sac de jour are also great options. Sac de jour is a really great bag, however it can look a bit too formal and might not fit casual outfits, balenciaga on the other hand i feel is really versatile and can be dressed up/down.
i guess it all boils down to your everyday style:smile1:

For a young lady, I think a nice cross-body bag would fit the lifestyle. A large tote would take a lot of beating, since students tend to put books etc in it. A large satchel would be too clunky and bulky. Gucci has many beautiful small cross-body bags under $2k. A beautiful small cross-body bag is like jewelry. It can really decorate you.

Will this be your first designer bag or your first premier designer bag? If it's the former, I think it's a good idea to get a contemporary designer first to see if you'd really enjoy investing in/collecting bags as you think you would :smile1:
