What should I do with my old engagement ring?

While I'm with your ex on the part that "if I gave it to you, it's yours to do whatever you want to do with it" - saying to keep it for "memories" is a bold statement coming from an ex. ;)

I'd check out what it would fetch during a sale as is, and then probably put the money towards a really nice dinner, maybe a weekend escape with your soon-to-be husband or something similar.

Obviously you can always just put the money aside for whatever other ideas come up over time ...

So, I'm all for selling it.

Kind regards,
Oliver

that would be a Really Nice dinner....like a destination dinner I think

congratulations on your recent engagement. :)

i would either go back to graff and see what they can do. Or i would sell it and put the money towards either another piece, or towards your wedding.
Wishing you the best of luck nomatter what you decide.

xx :)

I was thinking about this idea too. I haven't contacted Graff, but do you know if Graff offers such service? ie. re-set my ring or re-make it into something else?

Reach out to Graff & see what your options are I'm sure that you are not the first in this situation but would
also think they if you are inclined to make a purchase, they would be willing to work with you..
I don't know if you know the value of the ring but you should have an idea, JMO so you know what you are
getting into in a manner of speaking..
Good luck on both counts.. your upcoming marriage & a new purchase

I agree with taking it to Graff. I’m sure they could re-work it or trade it in, even if they don’t give you full value, you’ll likely get more than selling privately.

And I know my second husband would not be happy with me wearing my old e-ring, even if he “said he was ok with it”, I know it would bother him.

Plus frankly, I wouldn’t want to wear it myself. Unless you have particularly fond memories of your ex (what a comment, to keep for memories! Mind you my ex and I didn’t split on good terms even though we are ok now, but I digress...)

For me - karma. I’d want it gone. Traded or sold, whatever.

Agree...
New marriage, new beginnings & new memories..
I'd see what Graff has to offer & go from there.
With provenance being Graff, OP should have solid offers for an upgrade or what ever she decides to do

First I’d try going to Graff. If that didn’t work out, I would try to sell it. But I’d also consider the possibility of giving it to (if no children) my niece or nephew or my sister. When I got married, my aunt gave me her diamond rings from her previous marriage. And a pair of Diamond earrings from my x I gave to my sister. At the time, the resale value was just too low for me to see selling as worth it.
