I don’t think you can really understand how “I want men to dress like men and woman to dress like woman” can be damaging unless you are or know someone who’s gender does not correspond with their “bits”. It’s such a foreign concept for those of us for whom those things go hand in hand. My heart breaks for people who struggle with this.

Eh. To the OP, wear what you love, ignore the opinions of anyone else. If you like it, wear it and wear it well and wear it with pride.

As for the side show argument, I'm totally straight. Like, my first crush was on a man at 4 years old (before I even knew what that weird feeling was called) straight.

That being said, I'm a woman who wears pants AND jeans. And skirts, dresses. I wear heels, I wear oxfords. I've worn ties and suit jackets and blazers. I've even stolen my boyfriend's (dad's and brother's too) clothes to wear. If my wardrobe is allowed to vary so much - why not a man?

Remember, fashion changes (being nice to people shouldn't change). Heels (introduced to Europe from Persia) and pants were once only worn by men. Neither sex "owns" any of these fashion accessories. We've been stealing and borrowing each other's wardrobes for centuries. I don't see any reason why that should stop now.

I think if you can rock it, go for it!!!
I've seen guys totally pull it off and look amazing like they're on a runway.

What I don't understand is when I see a young and healthy looking couple and the guy is the one carrying the purse while the girl is just walking next to him empty handed.

Funny thing is I find it romantic when it's an elderly couple.

How does it look with the outfit? I have transgender friends & friends who crossplay (switch genders for cosplay), I myself often do female versions of male characters for cosplay.
As a female with pretty much a buzz cut who loves skirts, dresses & makeup and all things fashion as well as Star Wars, superheroes and college football, stereotypes are made to be broken.

I don't think Stone Age theology nor socially constructed strict, and arbitrary gender roles have anything to do with what bag I, personally, decide to carry. This is not the place for such argumentation. Nonetheless, thank you to all those that gave sound advice and didn't shame me lol

My first reaction could be from, wow, what great style, to, oh, that is so ugly... depending on whether I like the particular bag and outfit. In other words, exactly as when I see a woman carrying a bag.

That said, in general, I really like the principle of men carrying bags. I kind of love everything gender fluid, tomboyish women, the garconne style (check my avatar), heterosexual men wearing make up (this was totally normal in the 80s, what happened?). I think our dress codes became so stiff in the last couple hundred of years... We tend to forget, that not so long ago it was perfectly normal for men of whatever persuasion to wear pink tights and heels, adorned with a big silk bow on top. So it is about time we take men from the gray suit straight jacket we have put them in (mind you, I do love a sharp blazer, hardly wear anything else).

To answer your more specific question, what would I think if I see, as you put it, a feminine guy carrying a (so designated) woman purse. I may assume they are gay, without giving it much thought. Yes, perhaps prejudice, but probably that would be my assumption without dwelling on it. My thinking would be on the particular style.
Being as you are a teenager boy, which is where my son is heading fast, I would probably also be a tad jealous. I have done something wrong, because he doesn't strike me like the type who is going to be adventurous in his fashion choices... oh well, he does wear an Eastman bumbag crossbody style, so perhaps there is some hope.

I'm a female who loves masculine fashion as well as feminine fashion on me.

Nobody bats an eye when I wear androgynous or masculine clothes or accessories, and I feel free to wear whatever style of fashion I choose to wear. Even if I'm told that I cannot wear a man's shirt, I will if I want to!

So I think it would be totally fair to say that a man can also wear whatever he wants! If that's an acceasory, so be it.
