First, please tell me if I am even using the term correctly. I know it's called the 1947 now, but was it always? Probably not back in 1947, because that would be silly.

I know this bag comes out every now and then, in different sizes and in different leathers (I sometimes see them in pebbled but usually in smooth). I pretty much never see them IRL. Which one do you like, and why?

A year ago, I scored on of the 13 inch bags but I sold it within a week or two. It was just too dang big for me. The little ones seems soooo tiny (the old ones and newer ones). There is a medium that's about 10 inches and I cannot tell if that feels like a larger or smaller bag. I know it's all perspective, but I'm curious what sizes and which leathers have worked for people.

Photos are always welcome! Especially mod shots of the 10 inch bag.

You made me smile because it sounded like the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears at the end.

Please look through here to see some of our member's bags Gucci Bamboo Top-Handle Club: 1947 'till now unfortunately, some of the picks are no longer visible.

It had a Italian Mod Brev number when it came out in 1947 and not a name. The Large was one of the originals.
It was reworked and modernised in 1966 and Vanessa Redgrave had one at the time she made the film Blow-Up. This was the 10" or 27cm version that is the Med today. Generically it was called the bamboo top-handle
The small came about in 1993 and included a strap for the first time.
The late-00s saw the New Bamboo Top Handle in 10"/27cm and comes without without the high metal link between the bag and handle. They also have detachable tassels.
In the SS10 they brought the Large 36 back
The Bold has a leather covered bamboo handle around 2014/5 but there are many other versions.
The tiny bag that was mini sized around the same time but was an evening bag, did not have the depth or open with the bamboo turnlock.
In 2016 the current CD brought the 1966 10"/27cm version back again.
The real mini came out for the AW21 for the Centenary collection and that's when they became '1947' . The mini doesn't have a change of strap (like the Med and the large from the same collections)

If it's just the sizes. I would only buy a Small for the evening (I wish I'd bought the Small in Silver when it came out). Mini looks ridiculous on me. The Med is absolutely perfect as a day-time handbag, even a casual evening. I think it looks good with everything. The Large I use more for work or sometimes when I'm out all day. I have used them all continuously since bought new and I think they are my favourite Gucci model.

I have 4

2 Large
Aviation blue padded grained-calf NBTH
Hand-painted grey on grey Boar-skin NBTH
+
2 Med
Chalk NBTH Bold
SO Black in Med BTH 1947 - I think this bag is another level.
I like owning these two because they are like a positive and negative of each other, although I really like the contrast of the natural dark brown handle with different leathers.

I'm not sure if have any mod pics but they would be either in the BTH Clubhouse thread or What lovely Gucci are you using today?

Haha, yes, I am looking for a Goldilocks bag.

The one I am getting seriously interested in is the 10 in, New Bamboo with tassels in gold as more of a cross casual to evening bag. I think I could wear this to work, with jeans, to Happy Hour, or a wedding. The color is neutral and the size seems right....maybe.

I'm gun shy because I found the 13 inch shockingly large. But the small does look useless to me. Other than beautiful.

Do you have thoughts on the pebbled leather? I see you don't have any.

I've been reading that thread you mentioned Someone congratulated you on being the Gucci model. What was that about?

I don't know what they meant about me being the Gucci model  . One of our member's little boy was in the latest campaign Please look for new Gucci Campaign

If you look in the clubhouse BTH thread you'll see lots and lots of different leathers colours and variations. All my bags are made from different leathers, I would say they all have they have the appearance of smooth from a distance yet none are polished calf, even the SO black is a gently stamped leather (makes to a bit more scratch resistant).

Gucci don't use pebbled/tumbled leather, as far as I know they use full-grain, the sizes of the grain comes from the use of different animal types and age of animal. Using a younger animal (calf in this case) on a larger bag (my Large Aviation Blue) makes it look smoother but it's full-grain, whilst using an older animal (cow) on a smaller bag will make it look more 'pebbly' e.g #1,699 the leather on this has a different treatment that gives a slightly mottled appearance with the way the dye is distributed that brings out the grain more prominently, this leather/treatment together officially known as 'Artisan Old Libeccio' leather and was very heritage Gucci. Hope that makes sense because it's difficult explaining in written word.

Could be the one you are talking about is either the light brown Artisan Old Libeccio leather (these also have decorative hand-stitching) or the slightly metallic Winter Leaf (brown with a slight green-undertone)

Madam Gucci, you are as brilliant as you are generous!

I am a fan of the 1947 bag. Love the bamboo handle. Adds unique details to the bag. I also love that it doesn’t have any visible logos. I have 2 of the Medium size in oatmeal and brown. Both are great neutrals.
Good to hear! It is the kind of bag that looks like the second it looks dated it will look waaay dated, but since it is appreciable older than I am, well, haha! I might just expire before the style does!
