What is the best way to downsize? And do you downsize at all?

Ladies, when you decide to downsize a collection to make room for new Coach beauties, what do you do with your NWOT bags or NWOT key fobs (assuming they cannot be returned)? Keep for the future? eBay? Consignment? Donate? Save for your daughters? I'm in my "out with the old, in with the new" December phase, stuck between keeping what I know is classic long-term value and really needing to clear household clutter!

I just recently downsized to get some extra spending money for Christmas. I split between garage sale and ebay. Patent leather is hard to photograph so I have my mom sell those bags at her neighborhood garage sale, I don't get much for those. If you have nwt bags, those do well on eBay, especially if they are older styles. If the style is still in stores I would hold onto it until it is out of stores. I have noticed that SLG's do not sell well on eBay. You have to practically give them away. Sometimes you can be really surprised at what you can get for your used bags though!

I'm going through the fobs I haven't used now and trying to find receipts so I can return them. I have a bad tendency to buy every fob I see at the outlet. I need to do the same thing with my pony scarves. I have three bags that still have tags that I'm going to keep and one with tags that I am going to return, plus one still on its way from FOS that I hope I'll like.

I can't bring myself to give to charity or to sell for peanuts something that cost me a bunch so even if I don't use a bag very much, I'd rather keep it unless I can return it for what I paid or sell without too much loss. The things I own that would fetch the most money are usually the things I like the best.

I've given several bags to my daughters. That isn't as painful as selling at a loss or giving to charity. At least I feel like I might get them back someday.

Downsize? What is this strange concept? ;) I am still upsizing....and have a brand new purse storage tower to prove it...and am in need of at least one more.
If I ever do decide to downsize, I will pass along some bags to my daughter.
I went through quite a long ( for me ) dry spell, but I'm baaaaaaaaack!! My wallet is going to hate me again.

I sell all the time, mostly on Facebook groups (there are a few GREAT ones) and also on eBay. As far as I'm concerned, once the tags are off, it's "in like new condition", but I don't believe in "NWOT"...it's almost never true.

I agree... I do not understand this downsize concept... :shrugs: Bags that have come to my house tend to become pretty comfy and don't want to leave... They may go into hibernation for a little while, but they always come back out to play. :graucho:

TOTALLY! I got this concept from my mother, If I buy something that expensive, I plan to use it for life! There have been a few regrettable purchases though (luckily only outlet stuff so I didn't pay a fortune) but in those cases I gave them to friends I did try selling a coach bag at a consignment shop (they do the work) but never really made any money back on it.

I sell things I don't need on eBay, mostly; this year I sold a few items, but the overall trend is upsizing...:sweatdrop:. Hoping to get that under control by Spring 2015, since there's nothing from Coach I'm wanting, judging from the preview. But then, I may go for Kate Spade instead...yikes

Would love to see your purse storage tower. I didn't know those exist.

Good thoughts, everyone! Believe it or not, I do have NWOT and they are truly NEW....sitting in dust bags, tags off, never left the house. This is because I used to have this horrible habit of detaching tags the second it came home, but now have some that I just never get to because I keep reaching for my faves. Wish I did still have tags. I'm really torn....every time I try to downsize, I decide to hang onto everything, but the overload drives me up the wall. I'm one of those "I like this one, I need it in every color" kinda girls. And the fobs....I think I have every crystal sparkly fob ever made. Sigh. Trying now to pick just one or two fave styles in unique colors. I wish this site let us do bag sales or trades....this forum has the true Coach lovers. If I do downsize, I want them to be loved, you know? It's like having art work but no extra wall space.

Good luck! tpF does have the market plaza, but they've stopped taking new applicants long time ago. And generally, I find that eBay have much larger traffic, so as much as I don't like the site, I usually try to get rid of my extra things there. Know what you mean about buying bags in every color...I had BR and J Crew tees in just about every hue available, but decided they were a bit too small for me, and had to unload them. Good thing they fit my close relatives, and they went to a very happy/loving home; but if I had to sell them, they wouldn't fetch a penny. Difficult to decide, but would hate stuff to go to waste...
