Hello all!
This is especially for the Barrnia lovers, lurkers, and owners out there—I am looking into possibly getting a natural Barenia Birkin 35, palladium hardware, secondhand through resale, but as I don’t know what Barenia goes for in the shops, I also don’t know what is an absurd markup. I have been looking for this particular type of leather in a Birkin for a while now. The bag I’m looking at would be around $18,000 (from 2017 and in very good condition). Does that seem like a relatively fair price or is that a ridiculous markup that others would not recommend and favor waiting until finally, maybe, getting a bag offer directly from Hermès?
Thanks in advance!

I would wait. Size 35 is not popular right now so you probably would be able to get one from the store and save you few thousand dollars. And to tell you the truth I don’t even know how many people out there who really love barenia like some of us do here, so... I would wait for a store one.

Do you particularly want a 35cm? If it was new and I had my heart set on these exact specs, I'd consider it a relatively fair price given the scarcity of Barenia. That said, I do think for used it's a bit high. In the end, you have to decide if $18,000 is reasonable for you.

have seen a used barenia fauborg b35 went for really low price $6000, for a good condition used one is around $12800
but this is for fauborg type, not the smooth barenia, maybe that will cost more.

Thanks for the replies all!

I ended up getting the bag I was looking at: it’s actually in very good condition (I would say very lightly used)—even all the plastic protection stickers were still on the metal. It is a smooth/ natural barenia 35 cm palladium hardware. Though it looked as though I might be paying a few thousand over retail/ sticker price, for me, I decided it was worth it to get the bag in the exact specs I wanted, in just below new/ pristine condition, without having to play the “Hermès Game.”

So I am now the very happy owner of a Barenia beauty :)

Congratulations! If you think of the fact that with tax the retail price will be well north of $14K, maybe closer to $15K (I paid 13.1K plus tax for my Barenia B35 in late 2017 and there has been a price increase since then - I am told it’s actually more than $200 increase) - and these are the exact specs you want and you want basically pristine... these bags are push offers only. Worth it to get exactly what you wanted.

That’s exactly how I felt, so I’m definitely okay paying a bit of a premium to get what I wanted :). My new-to-me Barenia is also a 2017 and I can’t wait to see the patina develop over the decades.

I had no idea that these Barenia bags are “push orders”—makes me feel even better about my purchase since then it might have taken forever to get my dream bag!

I love the Hermes heritage leathers, they are just so special. Next on my search/ wishlist is a Kelly 35 Vache Naturel or Black Box Calf. I’ll keep trying at the stores, but I don’t live near any Hermès so I can only go when I travel for work, so I’m keeping a lookout for resale like my new-to-me Barenia Birkin beauty.

Thanks again for all the advice, much appreciated!

Congrats on your Barenia Birkin! :woohoo: I recently posted a Black Box Kelly 35 here. :graucho: :giggle:

Hi all!

I have been looking for a 35 Fauve Barenia (smooth) Leather B GHW and heard from a reputable seller (through forum) for $22k for a brand new/full set. I’ve done some searching on the forum and it seems that there aren’t many recent prices noted for this specific set (BF leather and PHW seems more common in resale), though a 2019 thread noted that someone felt like $18k for a PHW was worth it and that retail might be around $13-14k for those specs (https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/what-is-a-fair-price-for-resale-barenia-birkin-35.1017408/). Is $22k sky high and I should consider other options? I know a part of $ considerations strongly depend on how much it’s worth to me, but given that no Barenia seems to have passed the $20k threshold (on the information in this forum) I’m a bit hesitant...

I'm by no means an expert, but from what I understand, H doesn't make that many smooth barenia bags, and it is more expensive than other non-exotic leathers. It's pretty hard for even a frequent H shopper to get one. I'm pretty sure it's a "push offer" to stores, which means the store managers can't order it. There's a thread dedicated to barenia in this forum, you might get more replies and expert advice there.

Is it too much? That's up to you and it's up to whoever wants to buy it. One would have to not just spend a lot of money in the store before being offered this bag, there would be a lot of wait time, and it would be pretty expensive. You can always wait a little bit for one to show up on reputable sellers like Fashionphile, AFF, etc. There's lots of them discussed on this forum.

Thanks for the advice! That's the thread I was referring to in my post (and I'll link it there so that people know that, I hadn't thought of linking it). It's helpful to have the information and context you provided, I truly appreciate it!

You're welcome!

I think that's the thread I was thinking of, where you can get more advice from people who know about barenia much better than I do! Since you want a B35, it might be easier to get than a B30 right now.

Thank you! I'll close/delete this then so that I'm not duplicating requests everywhere. I'm new to the forum (but long-time lurker) so am trying to ensure that I'm behaving appropriately!
