What happened in the year that I've been away??

They need to replace the store designer they have now and get someone who knows how to make a store attractive. The stores are boring. I have mentioned this to the SA and managers, that they need to put more stuff out.

Also Coach needs to put all the bags in every store, instead of offering different bags at different stores. Only the Flagship stores carry the higher end bags, and there are few of those. When people go into a mall they can be of any economic situation, or maybe have extra money that day, or maybe they are visitors to the area, etc. Why not make use of the store, put all your stuff out on display. I guess in theory it sounds good, make some stores elite stores, make the stores look exclusive with uncluttered shelves, but it's not working for Coach.

I went into a nice mall last week and stopped into the Coach store, and it was the most boring store in the mall and of course it was empty, not one customer. The shelves were half empty, SAs were looking bored, I walked in, walked around once and left. And if the Coach store is boring to me, a long time Coach collector, I'm sure it's boring to everyone else who happens to stop in.
I totally agree. My FP store is an hour's drive away so I don't go very often, but when I do go, most of bags I want to see aren't even there. They don't think buyers in our market would buy the more expensive designs. It has become a self-fulfilling prophecy since most buyers won't buy them if they can't see them in person before purchase.

I felt just horrible going into my FP store to return the Whipstitch Tatum tote. It was a rainy Sunday afternoon and it was desolate and the SA's looked bored. I wanted to find a bag I could exchange it for, but for the price point, I have some other much better contenders. I fell in love with the hair calf Page when I tried her on last week, but it is just not an $800 bag. There are other bags I like, but are basically duplicates of a style I already own.

For me the issue is high price point and moderate quality. Some of the leathers were just okay.

MK had some gorgeous bags at reasonable price points. I have two MK's and some styles are not my taste, but at least they weren't overpriced.

The thing is, I don't mind paying for a great bag, but nothing new was great. I am still hoping for great things this spring. What can I say, the eternal optimist!!

Coach has always been known for their moderately priced, trendy, leather and more recently their siggy bags. They have never been known as a high end luxury brand but it sounds like that is what they are trying to now become. I don't see that as being possible. How can you drastically change your brand name like that? And yet they still have outlets at just about every outlet mall possible. You can't have it both ways---beg big $$ for your bags AND send them to the outlet after several months (used to be every 6-8 weeks but it sounds like they are going for longer now). Also, you can't ask big $$ for your bags when every other girl is carrying a much less expensive "outlet" style of said designer. I'm very confused.

I know there are so many angles to their "rebranding" and I'm sure some good changes but this is how I'm seeing it right now after just stepping back in for a moment.

....It makes me sad because this is the one brand I have carried through most of my adulthood but I barely think to even look at it anymore. I have a couple of bags that I love and enjoy, but for the most part, what I've seen this last year just doesn't appeal to me. I didn't leave Coach--I think it left me first. Whatever their new plan and demographic is, I don't fit into it. Moving on...

THIS. Yes, I agree - after being a 'loyal' customer for 8 years, the past couple years Coach has drifted further and further away. Locking repeat buyers out of FOS, discontinuing PCEs, raising prices while lowering quality (seemingly, anyway).... Also moving on, or only focusing on finding styles from prior years.

Not to mention, they're trying to do this after just marketing themselves as a 'lifestyle' brand, selling t-shirts and branching out into more affordable clothing items for a brief while --what was it, last year or the year before?-- They've tried to go from the middle of the spectrum, so to speak, to one end, clear to the other end in a short amount of time... I'm confused, too. Make up your *#@$ mind, Coach! :confused1:

May I ask why you returned it? I was looking at that one but can't decide between that or the Dakotah (I know, two totally different bags in terms of use).

I think Coach leather is really lacking. I thought the original Phoebe, Madison hobo, etc. leathers were great. But the leathers that have come out since then have been subpar. Why are they using cheaper leathers? Do they think we can't tell the difference?

The trends are changing - isn;t this what we all complain about and eventually love?? I am saving for a Coach Gramercy Satchel (which I think is gorgeous with lots of detail and thick leather). Everyone hated then loved the Poppy bags..... the renewed Legacy bags......etc. I think Coach will eventually find their niche again and I, for one, don't think the quality of their bags has gone down the tubes. I am still rocking my Rory (from last year) and Madison Ocelot Tote. I also love My Madison Hobo (purchased this past Spring and still on the Coach Outlet website). All three are high quality bags. So far this season I've got the leather feather fob (quality is amazing!) and, again, have heard nothing but wonderful reviews about the Gramercy.

Why are the stores not busy?? Michael Kors is the hot brand at the moment. Macys and Dillards also have Coach at F&F discounts. But I don't think it's the craftsmanship.

MK at two of my local malls is deserted too. Weekdays I NEVER a pass by and see a customer.
Personally I think a FP boutique in the same mall as Macy's or Dillard's,who both discount, is going to hurt the boutique.

Coach has been hurting for years. They can't figure out who their customer is. I carried Coach in the 80s and go in now and then. But I hate the monogram and the leathers are so heavy. I had the bag with the studs and only carried it twice.

Their clothing has been doing better although I don't buy it.
