What happened AFTER you got your Holy Grail?

Thank you for this insight. My current dream bag (my avatar) is $2500. I worry that even if I found a way to afford it I'd be too afraid of damaging it to ever use it. As you say, it would sit home unused and not properly enjoyed, seen only by myself. I'm also in an area where there is little appreciation for, or recognition of, fashion. It's good to know these are realistic concerns that others have experienced and dealt with, not just me being paranoid.
That's why most of my favorite bags were bought second hand. I hate to be the one to put the first scratch on a bag. I hate the moment when I cut the tags on a new item, second guessing myself over whether I made the right decision to buy it. I live in a similar area. I like that whatever I carry is for my enjoyment, not to try to fit in with a fashionable community. I think it is a good thing that most people don't recognize the bags I carry.

That is a great attitude about living in a... fashion challenged area.

I love this question! MY HG is a bag you have to be "in the club" so my chances of procuring are not immediately high. I'd love a 28 black box Kelly GHW. I saw a young lady wearing one at the O'Hare Airport recently which reinforced my wish. If I were to purchase one, I don't know if I'd look for another for quite a while. My current collection is satisfactory to me and if my HG doesn't materialize I still consider myself a very fortunate person. Another bag I'd love to have is a black distressed Chanel reissue. I guess that once a HG is at hand, there will still be other bags we desire. Car collectors will say the same thing about cars. I'm married to one, so I know!

Yes, I’m beginning to think I’ll look at the preloved market for my HG. It will be less outlay of money and I won’t be fretting as much about it staying in pristine condition.

So true likening it to car collectors! Incidentally, my total dream HG is a 28 Kelly too, but I’ve pretty much put that to bed. I’d want a newer color with palladium hw and the ones I like that come up on the resale market are still much too expensive.

Would you not consider a vintage? There are a ton of BBKs on the resale market with gold hw. I did have a black porc Kelly for a while, but black has never been a favorite bag color for me so I let it go. Still kinda kicking myself for that!

I've fallen in and out of love with so many bags I've lost count, so for me there's no longer a holy grail bag. I spent five years wanting a Chloe Marcie, which I finally bought and still use, but I also rotate through other bags depending on the season, where I'll be spending time, etc. Just bought a dressy backpack for lugging a work laptop around, for example. And with messy weather I switch to my nylon bags.

I've decided that I'm too fickle to have a one time holy grail. Every time I get a bag that I think is it, I realize it isn't as perfect as I thought it would be.
After I bought my HG (LV Artsy) I was bag satisfied for a while, about a year later I touched the waters of Hermès with a Picotin. Now I’ve been more attracted to contemporary designers such as Coach, Frye, Kate Spade and Marc Jacobs (My last 4 bags). Go figure.

Not sure an HG bag exists - the HG now might not be the HG that fits you in a few years, or after a major life change. Don't worry about an HG, just buy what suits you right now - you can't predict the future or how you'll feel even a few months from now. I thought owning Hermes would be "IT" - nope. I've come to terms with my own obsession - no HG - I just want all the bags all the time.

I coveted a leather Artsy for ages ... scouted them online, ordered and returned a Michael Kors knockoff of the Artsy, just loved the look, but could not bring myself to pull the trigger because it would have been totally out of line with what anyone around me carried, and they'd all know it was LV because of the logo (my Chloe and Givenchy bags don't have huge logos, nor did the Mulberrys I've since sold.)

The majority of women around here carry LV and Michael Kors. I feel almost undercover when I carry my Picotin because there’s no logo, no visible name..nothing. Just me knowing it’s Hermès :)

I think I’ve had so many HG bags over the years but nothing lately. I’ve always loved bags and when I got my first job I was into Coach. I bought two or three bags a year - no HG really. Then it was LV and I had to have the White Watercolor Speedy! I got sidetracked by other lesser HG’s: White Multicolore Speedy, then the Black one, then all the accessories. I tend to have collections although I know it’s bad for my wallet. It took a while but I did get the Watercolor Speedy. I still have it and love it but after getting it, it was onto other things! I wasn’t bag content. I’ve bought and sold and re- bought. I had a Birkin but sold it- leather bags are just too heavy for me. Currently, I don’t have an HG bag. I’m more into slg’s and bandeaux. I’m really trying to purge my collection but the struggle is real!
I also forgot to mention that I’m a teacher and I have to be careful what I wear and carry to work so most of the HG bags only come out of the closet on weekends/breaks.
