What do you do with old bags?

Depends. I’ve sold an old LV bag to another member here, because I didn’t like it anymore. It was in very good condition so I was able to sell it at a good price, probably 3/4 of what I paid for it. Another one of my LVs I gave to a friend because the vachetta handles have darkened and there is substantial corner wear. I figured I’d rather give it to someone who likes it because I’d probably earn peanuts if I consigned it.

I had a 7-year old Hermès HAC that I consigned. I got back like 2/3 of what I paid for, just because I accepted the option of fixed price upon receiving. Would’ve probably earned more if I went with the option of payout once the bag was sold to a buyer. I thought it wouldn’t be sold so fast.

I haven’t experienced a luxury bag being used to the point of being non-restorable.

One of mine split on the handle so I returned and exchanged for something else, so I currently have 8 handbags, which is my Goldilocks number.

I’d like to gift one as a Christmas or birthday present, but that will create a vacancy which I’d replace with a bag far more valuable than the present which I’d gift, so I’ll wait until I’ve found the right new bag, then gift one and replace it, so that I stay at 8 bags-where I always have one for every occasion but I’m not overwhelmed..

You had a bag split open within the return window?!

No, but I’m a qualified accountant and the Sale of Goods Act says that goods should be fit for the purpose , and it was less than a year-I don’t consider it reasonable that a designer bag should split in less than a year , so I quoted the act to the manager, which surprised him as I look very young, so he took the bag back…

It's still pretty outrageous that a designer bag split within a year. Most decent companies will have at least a one year warranty anyway. I'm glad you got your money back.

I mostly keep mine. I don’t have bags that go out of style in my opinion, too. Also I am one of the people who don‘t believe that there is a special season for a bag. All bags are all season.

I had a few bags in the past which I sold off when I noticed they don‘t work for my lifestyle. My recent ones which don’t work I have just kept because I am too afraid of online scam people to sell them online.

To be honest, not all of my bags work for my current lifestyle-i find myself using the same ones all of the time.

I’ve already picked out one, in perfect condition, in dust bag, which fits into a gift box, which I’ll probably gift at Christmas to make room for a bag which I’ll use regularly.

Not “old” bags exactly…but I’d like a new one, and I’m at my optimum number, so I’ve listed some for sale-not for financial reasons as only a couple are very valuable , but more for the principle of making a space..

If I manage to sell a couple then I’ll withdraw the others from sale-obviously I haven’t listed my favourite bags, and the proceeds won’t cover the new bag, I just don’t like to be overrun with them, and I have too large, too small etc.

I’ve only just listed them, but although it’s only 6th November, people seem to be Christmas shopping, so maybe I’ll be lucky and sell a couple-I don’t mind which, then I’ll decide which bag to replace them with.

Purse peace doesn’t really exist-I’ve been on purse pause but TPF is a great enabler!!!

I get bored easily/quickly, so when that happens, I just sell them to Fashionphile and I'll usually fund another one right after. I don't donate them because I only use luxury bags (not trying to be a snob), and I try to get money for them. I never wear my bags to death because I take very good care of them, so they're always in really good condition.

Don't get me wrong, I love all my handbags and all of them have sentimental value to me. Just wondering what people are doing with bags that ruled an era at some point in the past, or just does not fit your lifestyle very well? I have a Fendi 3Jours that I've carried maybe 5 times since I got it in 2014, a medium sized lady dior that I adore but don't use very much (I have 3 other Lady Diors in small/mini), a Fendi backpack (it's the one with monster fur thing, I'm trying to use it more this winter), a Jumbo size Chanel classic flap, and a Chanel coco handle in mini.

Considering how compelled I felt to purchase them at the time, even after weeks or months of deliberating, it's really sad that they don't see the light of day very much, or at all. But they are not great in the rental or resale market either.

In an ideal world, I would have stopped bag purchases in hopes that I will actually use these expensive bags that I bought, but instead, I just kept buying other bags that were more trendy, and suitable for my wardrobe and my petite frame. Oh mon dieu....

I have sent away several handbags to like a rental site if they are still trendy or have some rental value, or to my mom or my sisters and really I don't even know how many I have in total at this point, but my bagdrobe is duplicating by itself magically as it does. Oops another lady dior! This year I did much better than last year, but I still managed to buy 4 new handbags, two Diors, one Moynat and one Bottega. No regrets and they were relatively thoughtful purchases, but today I was cleaning my apartment and realized how much stuff I really have.

You are not alone..
I have a beautiful Laurus Geneva blue ostrich bag, which I love, but it’s too small for everyday-I want a Laurus crocodile bag in a larger size, but don’t want zillions of bags ..
I nearly sold a couple of bags, but they were ones which I could use, so I removed them from sale…
I don’t have that many bags(8), but I use the same ones all of the time…and wish I could replace the small Laurus with a larger croc one, and a couple of the others..
