What do you do with old bags?

I suppose I have too many bags, but I'll get a new one, wear it about 75% of the time until I get a new one or it starts to show wear, in which I just rotate it out with all of my bags and do what I can to maintain it. With care, most early signs of wear can be mitigated. Every couple of years I review my collection, see which pieces I still love and which pieces no longer serve a purpose. If it's worth anything, I might sell it to Fashionphile. Otherwise, it gets donated or given away.

If in VGUC / EUC, sell privately on Posh or Kijiji.

One of my girlfriends took a Strathberry I barely carried - fate actually with the theme and I’m glad she took it.

Donate if they’re in good nick, maybe slightly out of style.

There’s some bags I rarely wear but I’ve kept for nostalgia or sentimental reasons.

When I was 18 and just about to go to college, I was given my first luxury bag, handed down by my cousin.

It was a small Fendi shoulder bag, in the classic logo print, fabric, with small FF's, zip closure, leather strap.
It was my only bag and I used it when going out with friends, clubbing, drinks, shopping, etc. I knew it was designer but to me I was just happy to have it and use it.

I literally wore that bag to death in 2 years of constant use.

The fabric frayed and pilled, the edges got worn down, the shoulder strap split into 3 layers/strips of leather. (Never got it dirty though!).
It was pretty much unrepairable at that point. I was sad but very happy that I used it and used it well.

And then it was laid to rest in the trash. RIP.

I love to keep my collections small and manageable (handbag and other collections).. so when new things come in, others are let go. All of my items are babied and enjoyed in rotation.. they end up being let go before there is wear or tear (most of the time.. occasional blemishes happen occasionally!) I never sell things.. only give away to loved ones or donate to charity.

My sis, a woman after my own heart. Or, at least, my former heart. To have one or two bags at a time and use them to death over a year or two, until they literally broke, was my stilo for years! And then to the trash. Now I have too many bags for that to happen. But when I recently wore out my Dooney and Bourke and it broke, with inner support structure showing, I was actually kind of proud. It’s going to take forever to wear these bags out I have now, with me rotating them so much!

I can relate. I usually think of it like this. Each bag’s lifespan is at least a yr of everyday wear. If I have 15 bags, it will take me at least 15 years to use them to death!

Exactly! And if they're well made, even longer. My D&B lasted the equivalent of 2 years of daily wear! Imagine 30 years to wear 15 bags out. That's why I need to find alternative reasons to get rid of them, lol. Vague reasons like "it's not working out" or "it's me, not you". There are 1 or 2 like that among my current 11 ... the thrill is gone. They're not super expensive, so unless selling is easy (which is seems to not be in this climate), might just donate them or something.

I donate them..I did sell a couple, bu5 I didn’t enjoy it, selling to strangers..I’d rather gift and know that they’ll be appreciated..

Now my collection is down to 9, with a wishlist of 3/4 max (all very expensive exotics), I’m quite happy with my collection, if I get bored of a bag, or it shows signs of too much wear, I’ll gift it, but atm I’m quite happy with my collection…

One of my bags split after an unreasonable amount of time, so I returned it and exchanged it for something else, so I’m down to 8 bags, with a Wishlist of 3 exotics.

My niece turns 21 next June-I’ve promised her a designer handbag, and I May gift her one of mine, as long as I’m sure that I’m not going to regret it-I May buy one of the bags on my wishlist at the same time to equal things up.
