What determines Outlet Stock?

Recently, I went on a vacation to Key West and noticed there was a Coach Outlet there. I went in and noticed that they had this WALL of retail items: Dinky, Rogues, Market Totes, Charlie Carryalls, Parkers, etc. I was lucky enough to pick up the Callie Ombre Snakeskin Clutch for 60% off (if I wasn't flying I would've grabbed more).

However, my local Outlet HARDLY gets any retail items, except the occasional that are online like the Swagger and Cooper. It made me wonder what determines an outlet's stock? Is it based on the location? My Outlet is about 15-30 minutes away from a Retail Coach store so I always wondered if that's the reason they do not fill the outlet with retail items.

If anyone has any insight that would be awesome. If anyone is heading to the Florida Keys soon go to the Key West Outlet!

Outlets that are FURTHER away from retail locations get better stock. My local outlet, 20 minutes away... never has anything. Also because I have 2 retail stores within a 20 min drive as well and 6 outlets within 1 hr drive.... 4 in my state. When areas have an outlet but no retail stores... they get better and more stock.

Ahhh okay that makes sense!! I knew it had something to do with that but just wanted to confirm! So sad I have 1 Retail and 1 Outlet and they're super close to each other

Same here - outlets in my area hardly ever receive a large supply of retail items (called transfers or deletes depending on who you talk to). For me it is always a hit or miss or picked over non-desirables. It was shared with me that each of the outlets are categorized based on tiers. E.g. tier 1, tier 2, etc. Tiers are based on sales so Tier 1 stores bring in more $$ than others and retail merchandise are sent to those stores first. Was also informed that every coach retail store has a sister outlet store that transfers come from.

Yes I believe that's correct about the tiers. My city has 2 outlets full of deletes and 3 retail stores all within 10-15 miles of each other.

I think they go by demographics. In san diego county there are two outlets - one near the mexican border that has less expensive bags. and one in north county coastal area that has higher end bags as well as some outlet bags. I got a Borough bag at that one but you'd never see one of those at the san ysidro store.

That makes sense. The outlet nearest me is in a working class area, and the locals mostly buy the most inexpensive made for factory bags. I doubt many of them understand the difference between those bags and deletes. The SAs pretty much guessed I was the one who would take home the dark denim and snakeskin Rogue 36 (and they were right :P).

Not necessarily true. It is usually determined by the store tier

So true! Tier 1 stores receive the best deletes and also usually have the full line of regular outlet collections (all the items). Lower tier stores sometimes do not receive the full collections like the Disney, PAC-man, etc.... that’s why some stores have certain items and others don’t.
